Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

^ You should be alright.

@redwings

Completed Calc I, Calc II, Financial Accounting I & II, Managerial Accounting, and GE areas I & III along with the Diversity requirement.

I’m currently a transfer student studying at a Community College in San Diego. I’m applying to USC school of Architecture and Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY) and was wondering what my chances were! Here’s a list of my classes from fall 2010 at the Community College to this semester:

Fall 2010:
ACCT 116A (financial accounting): B
BUSE 140 (business law): A
HUMA 101 (humanities): A
SPEE 103 (oral comm.): A

Spring 2011:
ARCH 170 (arch design): B
ENGL 101 (reading and comp): A
MATH 104 (trig): D
PHYS 100 (physics): B

Fall 2011:
ARCH 100 (arch drafting): W - withdrawal
ARCH 105 (intro to autocad): A
ARTF 150A (2D design): A
ENGL 205 (higher division engl, as required): A
MATH 104 (trig, retook it): C

I’m currently taking Sociology 101, Philosophy 101, history of Western Civilization, and Precalculus.

I’m trying to cram as many recommended courses as possible, but my Trig grade and the retake grade ruined everything for me. I’m horrible at math yet I do well with other courses. I have a 3.49 WITH academic renewal enforced, except USC doesn’t allow it. So say I have a 3.25-3.3 GPA. My portfolio isn’t OUT OF THIS WORLD, its around average to a bit above average (nothing gushing with talent everywhere, I’m not the natural artist kind of type). I completed 35 units (with academic renewal) and I’m an international student (from Kuwait). I really want to know what my chances are at getting in USC.

Thanks for the help

Marshall junior transfer.
Math completed: Cal I, II &III; differential equation; taking linear algebra this sem - coz I want to minor in FM so I took more math courses than required.
Financial accounting completed; taking managerial accounting this sem
GE completed.

Impressive. I was going to register for Diff equations this semester but I opted for the easy route. (I was in that Sr year high school mindset in where the last semester I didn’t want to be bothered haha). But anyways those math classes are pretty impressive. I give you credit for taking them.

hey you guys! im currently a freshman at a UC school and I really wanted to apply to get into USC for my sophomore year, but what are the chances of that? I am applying under a Gender Studies major. Also, what do they require? I am finishing up my application as we speak, but I have not gotten a recommendation from my college professor yet. I couldn’t find whether or not if they need recs at all in the requirements for students who are going under Dornsife…

Hey guys, Do we need to send in official score reports for SAT?!

@jeremey

Jeeze, that’s impressive haha. Looks like I’ll just have the minimum requirements done (once I complete calc).

Most of the classes I’m taking at CSUF don’t seem to match up with the GEs at USC. I kinda just discovered how much I want to go to UCS. I’m hoping I get in. I have a 3.74(hopefully that goes up when I get winter session grades) and a Great internship as well as some Volunteer stuff. I know my language classes will be accepted but not sure about the others. How are your chances if you come from a CSU? And also is 3.74 a competitive GPA?

Greetings everyone! I have been lurking behind this post for the past few days and have now finally made an account. I wish everyone the greatest success in their applications!

I am an international student and so the ‘School Forms’ section on the Common App doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, which of these are mandatory for SC submission?

I am planning on sending my equivalent of a high school transcript and my list of college courses as part of my application. I also have a letter of recommendation. Which is the best way of submitting this? Should I fax it to them or email it?

Thank you in advance :)

@SheSh18

Hey, I am also an international student and so have a similar issue to yourself. Did they list any alternate means of sending your transcripts other than fax? Do you know if email will be acceptable?

Just want to see what you guys think my chances are. Unfortunately, a lot of the classes I took were to fill the IGETC for the UC’s, but at the beginning of this year, I decided I did NOT want to attend a UC. So quite a few of my courses do not fit the USC GE requirements. Some do though.

Applying to Marshall as a Junior.

College GPA: 3.8
College Units (Quarter System): 83 Units - I have one “W”, in a class completely unrelated to my major (Philosophy)

I know my GPA is above the average of applicants accepted, so I’m not so much worried about that. What I’m mainly worried about is the prereqs.

I noticed the only two prereqs are MATH 125 or MATH 118, and WRIT130 (but I’m also a bit confused here, cause I recall reading it says two English courses are required. Regardless, I’ve taken two English courses). I’m taking Calc this semester. I’m also currently taking Stats. I have not taken Accounting. Took it in high school though. Not sure if that could be transferred? Haha

What do you guys think?

Also, on the USC website, it says:

I’ve taken one English course which is equivalent to the WRIT 130, and another one which isn’t listed on the articulation agreement with my community college. The two courses are:

1) Composition and Reading
2) Reading, Writing, and Research (fullfills WRIT 130)

^ I think you’re in.

Btw, did the common app crash last year?

@red

Congratulations on getting in the Calc class. Way to show perseverance.

I think USC only moved to the CA this year. I could be wrong though. But with anything, I would advise waiting until 11:59 PM to send it in.

I always tell this story of my friend who applied to Stanford freshman year. He waited until the last minute only to have the system crash. His application was submitted but a few minutes past the deadline. Come spring, he was waitlisted and I always joke around with him that if he would have submitted it on time, he would have been accepted.

@redwings532
I think not taking a college accounting course might hurt you.

Also, I’m also applying to Marshall with a W in philosophy! But your GPA is way better than mine D:

Marshall applicants:

Just out of curiosity, what did you put for your second-choice major (after first-choice Bus Admin of course)? I’m about to submit the supplement and have second thoughts about leaving it blank.

Marshall Applicants: are any of you planning to go into Levanthal School of Accounting?

@kevin

I first selected International Relations (Global Business). I first attracted because you take courses in IR department but Marshall as well. However, I then changed it to Math/Econ. You can read about the IR Global Business Major below.

[IR Global Business Major > School of International Relations > USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences](http://dornsife.usc.edu/sir/global-business-major/)

Not here but I heard you can internally transfer once you have completed their prerequisites at USC. If I was interested in becoming a CPA I would seriously consider their program. I think Levanthal has a 4 + 1 program where you receive your BA in accounting as well as a Masters in accounting. Pretty cool.

Historically, have many people who have applied for sophomore enrollment been successfully admitted?

I might have to sign up for that come spring quarter.

Good luck to you!

I put:

1) Business
2) Marketing
3) Econ
