Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

CC…
No C-'s but one C in freaking calculus
and no W’s…
whattya think?

how many units have you completed? Honestly, it’s all in the air, depending on your EC’s and essays

17…
taking 14 units right now…
i honestly think my essay was pretty good… my sister who was an english major at UCBerkeley said it was good.
and for ec’s i’m currently in an unpaid hospital internship…
and i got a couple of recs…

hopefully its enough?

3.86 GPA (one B, all A’s) with about 52 units applying as a sophomore for Mechanical Engineer to Viterbi. What are my chances? (assuming my ECs are average)

I say this with respect but I believe you guys are wasting your time with the chance me questions/answers.

At the end of the day, none of us are qualified to give input on admission decisions. What works for one applicant might be a disadvantage for another. I can tell you my essays are excellent but they might come off arrogant to the Adcoms. As you can see there are too many variables to accucurately predict an applicant’s chances. It even states in the letter from USC something how the discussions are lively and admissions are hollistically.

Either way, you guys already applied. Wait it out. A reaffirmation from a random person is not going to expediate the process. Best of luck to everyone.

You’re right Mitch…
i’m just getting antsy haha.
but i agree with you…

I WISH THE DECISIONS WOULD COME OUT ALREADY.

My university is asking for housing deposits soooo early this year! I’m not even gonna know if I’m staying until way later… and it’s gonna be like $300 out of pocket. Ruuuuude. D:

@markyang

were you able to find the avg gpa is for transferring as a science major?

@lullabies:
haha yeah my school is doing that too. I don’ think I had to pay deposit down since I am a returning student but its hard to pick where you want to go and positions because I don’t know if I’m gonna even be there next year. But just think of this way February is about half way through, then March, then Spring break and before you know it it will fly right by you.

Finally got an email from USC saying that my all my material has been sent and is now going to be sent to the review committee. :)

@Blackrose21, you got an email…? no fair! do only some people get emails or something? haha

@ilovescience, I didn’t really find anything… but i think the avg gpa in general is 3.5 or something around there. Which science are you?

@markyang27:
Well I applied to the School of Cinematic Arts which requires you to send extra material like Letters of recommendation, portfolio, and stuff like that so I’m not sure if all of the schools do that because I also applied to the Viterbi School of Engineering and haven’t received any kind of email. But I also received confirmation from USC admissions because I was asking if they got one of my essays and for some reason after they answered my question they have been keeping up with me and emailing me when stuff got updated on stuff they received.

@markyang

i applied for the dental hygiene/DDS pathway program…we had to submit an app as a transfer and a seperate app to the dental school. what throws me off is the gpas listed on the dental school site seem pretty low. ~3.0 for science gpa, ~3.2 for overall gpa. hm…

interesting… lets hope so!
haha

but remember average means just that. its an average. that means there are gonna be people above it, and people below it. So i think everyone has a chance! :]

@markyang

true that!!! thanks for helping me stay positive lol. what major did you apply for?

haha no problem!
Keep your hopes up!

I’m applying for a bio major… i don’t know if its competitive at USC. isn’t it?

@markyang27: I would assume it’s competitive… Bio is a very popular major!

@BlackRose21: I applied to Annenberg which requires a LoR but they actually have never updated my USConnect saying they received it :frowning: I had to call before they told me they had it. I’m going to guess I’ll have to be very patient about the e-mail or them notifying me that they received my transcript (which I sent in earlier this month sooo…!)

Sort of a relief knowing they officially have all of my stuff. I feel like a ■■■■■■, I called to check on my transcripts because it still showed they were missing, and realized I had forgot to mention my name change this last summer. They had my transcripts the entire time they were just filed under my old name haha :stuck_out_tongue: The woman I spoke to was cool, we both had a good chuckle about it.

Hey blackrose21, did your email specifically say that they received all your materials?

Mine just said that they received my application and ‘is presently under consideration’. I don’t know if application equals the common app or the entire thing.

@Cminor: What major did you apply to?

Theatre. I had to submit my supplement by dec 1st.
