Official USC 2012 Transfer Thread

I think they use spring admission for students that they really like but that dont necessarily meet the GPA or some other standards. I know a girl that transferred from LMU with a 3.3 and she got in for spring. I think they really liked her essay, but her GPA was not as strong.

What was her major?

Her majors psychology. Whats your major and whats your gpa?

oh nice, well i applied for english/creative writing, will have a gpa of a 3.3 by end of spring, i’m at ucsc right now so i’m kinda worried, but i have great essays + extra circular stuff…

Any sophomore applicants for Engineering transfer here??? I’m kinda worried is it harder to get in or what?

@scgal

Are you a sophomore? What will your GPA be after winter if you dont mind me asking? Dont be worried. if you have a strong essay and good ECs that will definitely help

no don’t worry about it, i should have a 3.25ish, maybe after spring it will be a 3.4 i dont know yet…basically i took calculus and failed, retook it though and got an A (last winter quarter sucked)
i was hospitalized, thought i got everything together, but i didn’t and ended up getting horrible grades.

I feel your pain. I got really sick last year too, but I didnt indicate that on my application. I also thought I was going to be a bio major so i took chem and calc classes and that completely ruined my GPA :(

yeah i have all A’s in my english classes, and im taking a addition 2 more english classes next quarter…so yah the math really killed my GPA…college is so hard.

so whats ur major and what college are you at?

@emperorchintz I’m a sophomore engineering major! (transfer)
What type of engineering are you doing? I’m freaking out about getting into USC…

i called in and the admissions office says they do not look at extracurricular activities because some students are at a disadvantage

dont really get it but thats what ive heard multiple times. its all about the GPA

@californiagrl

your friend from lmu…was she on the trojan transfer plan?

I’m on the TTP! :)

Annenberg states on their website that they look at ECs…

And no my friend from LMU was not on the trojan transfer plan. she just had a really strong essay and basically said that she was going to keep applying to usc until she got in

@EmperorChintz @Ajuan17

I’m a sophomore transfer for engineering D: USC IS MY ONLY OPTION! What GPAs did you guys apply with and how many units?

meh i wish we didnt have the generic “why do you want to transfer” essay :p

oh my bad…i guess its different for different majors!

I know that essay was the worst! It was so impersonal. what did you say?

i honestly wasnt really sure since i asked my counselor if i could make it specific to USC since that was the only school i was applying to and she said she strongly advised not to do that for the common essay and to save it for the SC supplement…

i basically wrote about how i mistakenly rushed through the college application process last year in high school and how ive grown, that irvine isnt great for my major and that i want to be closer to home in a different atmosphere

what about you?

uh oh I made both the essay and the supplement about usc. was this counselor from UCI?
