Official USC 2013 Transfer Thread

i believe the 48k is EVERYONE including freshmen

Edit: given the fact in 2012 there were 8275 and 2770 admitted

Ah. That makes more sense, but maybe they are referring to everyone who applied and then specifically at the transferring students as being a member of. That is a weird way to give numbers. OR someone in their office pressed 0 one more time than necessary lol. (50% admission rate for USC would be absurd).

@alain no way. I go to IVC too. LOL

I probably won’t get in, so you guys won’t have to worry about my fraction of a percentage!

@randomnewguy - why don’t you think you will get in?

the number of admitted students worries me because i have not gotten a decision yet

Lol. 48,000 transfer applicants? God I hope not lol. The high school stats were released for fall already and it days 19% were admitted out of 47,227 applicants I believe. So if the packet really does say 48 where did they get that number? Did only 800 transfer applicants apply? Lol and where in the world did you get 5%?? lol don’t startle people in this way haha.

I would really love to see those exact words you read in the packet, because frankly, they don’t add up.

@Cschropp24 … I applied to Annenberg, which is competitive to begin with. I’m not a terrible student - and you could even make the case I’m a really good one - but I don’t know if I am any better than anyone else here. It’s a matter of fighting over a few spots and I’m a 29-year-old reentry student. Not sure how attractive that will be.

I have options, but I would like the option of USC. Oh well. It’ll be over by the end of the month. The last few weeks of Game of Thrones will distract me.

@random, what did you put as your second choice? You could always be admitted for that right?

Also last year including the freshman class and transfer stats, it was roughly 53,000 applicants altogether… So hey, apparently this year they had just 800 transfer applicants guys… Lol yeah right. I wish.

@Alaintran9, I go to IVC too!! And I took a couple classes at saddleback haha

@tomred … All of the majors selected were in Annenberg. I felt they were either going to take me or not. I have other schools where I can LEARN MY CRAFT (so to speak), but I’m not going to fit a round peg into a square hole just so I can go to USC.

… Also, playing with shapes and objects is juvenile and I have moved on to more mature behavior in my later twenties: like no longer yelling inflammatory language over Xbox Live, but mimicking flatulence noises instead. Sometimes, when I really feel moved, I articulate peer-reviewed rebuttals against my 11-year-old opponents (Ed. Note: WHO THE HELL LET’S AN 11-YEAR-OLD PLAY CALL OF DUTY? YOU ARE A TERRIBLE PARENT!) via belching. It does not get more sophisticated, folks.

I also drink tea while watching Game of Thrones (tea makes everything classy). And I have a fianc

@random, LOL.

I really wish I could have rewritten my Common App essay for USC as three pages of ASCII imagery depicting adorable cats with the closing statement of: “DO YOU REALLY WANT TO SAY NO TO THIS?”

@randomnewguy lol. It’s good to know that I am not the only person in my late twenties who has applied to USC. I’ll be 27 in a few months.

I’m old too, I’m 27. And grr, I just had to submit payment for my summer tuition at my current school in case of the strong possibility I won’t get into USC.

What did any of the adult applicants on here talk about for extra curriculars?

Well, I worked for my community college (won Student Employee of the Year, which gets you a certificate and slightly less grief from self-entitled students!), held a part-time job at Barnes & Noble, was a volunteer for SmartSacks program (packing weekend meals for needy public school kids), was a student orientation leader for non-traditional students, an individual presenter at the Maryland Collegiate Honors Council conference, an individual presenter at the annual Sociology and Anthropology poster session, helped with Phi Theta Kappa (drives, meetings, etc.) and I was nominated for (or won) a bunch of things.

I also prestiged twice on Call of Duty: Black Ops II. That’s right - twice.

And I proposed to my girlfriend, because I thought - hey, why not pack as much [expletive deleted for sensitive 17-year-olds] into one transformative, life-altering year as humanly possible?

@RandomNewGuy, wow that sounds like a strong application. And I hope you literally put your call of duty accomplishments on there, to see if they’re actually reading haha. Congrats on the fiance! Might as well go all or nothing.

I wrote about my financial troubles after high school and working for home depot for about a year. I also wrote about my back injury that occurred on the job that put me on disability for two years. I’m fine now though =)!
