Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

O my gosh, thank you so much @tchangaroo !!!

I feel like I’m going to throw up if I don’t hear something soon. :-& Do they have any idea what they are doing to us!?!?

@itzsupermanyo
Thanks! I am out of state, I was surprised the decision came out so early, but I am super happy right now!

@Trojfan131
Thank you!

@ddang1 Here is the answer to your question straight from the USC website.

"I submitted the Common Application & USC Supplement but my transcripts won’t get to USC until after February 1st. Is this ok?

Yes! To meet the application deadline you just need to submit the Common Application & USC Writing Supplement by the February 1st.

Official high school and college transcripts can be submitted soon after the deadline. However, your application will not be considered complete and will not be reviewed until all documents are received."

This will be helpful not only for us but 2015 transfers for sure. Let’s inherit !

@HopeForMarshall‌ thanks for your response! and yeah, i realize it’s technically considered okay to mail it in late, but i was wondering if that would hurt my chances. like if they run out of spots or look down on my app for being so late or whatever. I know it’s a difficult question to answer , i was just wondering if anyone had any input or is/was in a similar situation. but i still appreciate your help and anyone else’s!

@ddang1 If I had to guess, I would say it was the point you made about the number of spots. If you would be one of the last completed applications (making you one of the last reviewed), that would definitely make it tricky to bring you in, as they may have already reached the desired amount of accepted applications. Unfortunately that is why it is tough to put full faith in the CC admissions office (I just requested it to be sent twice or three times to make sure), but unfortunately it looks like those are the cards you have been dealt. I really hope you receive good news, because it would be really heartbreaking if that’s what keeps you out.

Good luck to you!

@Trojfan131‌ thanks, that means a lot! yeah i would be pretty devastated if they run out of spots. What makes this more frustrating is that i actually called usc back in march to make sure my file was complete and they said yes…
At the moment, I’m seriously thinking about going to the campus (since i live fairly close) and handing it into the admissions office personally. might make me look a little crazy (lol) but like you said, it would suck if i got rejected based on something that really should be routine

@ddang1 Did your CC give you a confirmation that they sent it? Not just that they ordered it. They should be able to confirm if they actually sent it. When I order transcripts (which is from three different colleges) I always get a paper, or email, that states when ordered transcripts and then soon after I get a confirmation that they sent it; some of them send directly from the school while others use Student Clearinghouse to process their transcripts.

The downside is that you probably should have been checking your USConnect more often. I would be ROYALLY pissed if the failure was with the CC. Logically thinking, if USC doesn’t have your transcripts, your review process is severely delayed. My assumption is based off the fact that around the end of Feb, USC absolutely began to review applications because they asked for additional information from me and sent them what they need the same day they requested it.

@HopeForMarshall‌ good point with the confirmation. you’re right, they never did do that, but it is my first time ordering transcripts from my cc so i have no idea how it works. i went off of the fact that when i called usc in march, they said my file was all complete. i check usconnect quite often and usc didn’t send me a message about missing transcripts until last wk. i immediately mailed an extra copy i happened to have myself instead of going through the system again. an admissions officer at usc told me it would take 2wks(including mailing time) from when i mailed it for it to be processed. Thats what scares me the most cuz that would make it about mid may when most of the decisions get mailed out already :frowning: trying really hard not to be pissed cuz i have no idea who to blame, just gonna stay hopeful about this whole thing

Is it too late to apply for financial aid ?

You guys need sedatives asap, lol

what are your guys thoughts on SGR’s in general?

@SCGirl101‌ Here is what I said in the decisions thread:

“I think making 80% of transfer applicants wait until July to receive their decisions is simply poor form. Students are giving up hundreds of dollars in deposits so USC can play the hedging game. The money we paid to apply deserves better than this.”

My perspective may come off as bitter, but I stand by it whether I’m accepted or not. I’ve been made to send my transcripts 4 times now, including the SGR. They asked for my Winter Grades, which was only 2 classes, and in which I upheld my GPA, only to look at it for a day and then immediately request my Spring Grades. I get that a lot of kids applying to USC might come from well off families, but I’ve spent hundreds of dollars I should have no business throwing around just to get my application through the door. After transcript processing and mailing fees, sending SAT scores, common app fee, and so forth, I could have paid a year’s tuition at my current school. God forbid if I had applied to some other schools and had to pay hundreds more in deposits. Oh did I mention my school doesn’t even release grades until days before the June 30th deadline? I have to sell a fragment of my soul for “rush processing” which is like 50 bucks for them (my college’s enrollment office) to print off a 1 page transcript and seal it in a fancy envelope, and then I’ll have to personally courier it down to USC to ensure it gets there on time. Knowing my luck I’ll probably get a parking ticket while down there. Truly the VIP treatment. Looks like I don’t even need to go to a 4 year college to start accumulating student debt.

Addendum – They should just call it what it is: a mass waiting list. There are so many alternatives to having to do it this way, such as a minimum GPA agreement, mid-semester grade report or anything of the sort. If they’re rejecting 4.0s after SGRs, I feel that it indicates a lack of decisiveness on USC’s part, and they’re really just using SGRs as an excuse to stall at the (financial and emotional) expense of the student.

Hi everyone!
I’m a UC student who just received an SGR in the mail. I’m concerned because my quarter doesn’t end until June 11th and grading won’t be completed until the 16th. I’m on track for a rising GPA trend, but I’m wondering if my late submission of my spring grades will have a negative effect on admissions chances. Will spots be more or less “given away” by the time I submit my grades?

@Romab93 There is still time. Its just the later you apply, the longer it might take them to complete the process and get your money. Here is the source directly from the USC website: http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/dates.html</a></p>

@kittymeoww Send in your spring grades as soon as possible. USC states that those in your situation will be notified by July at the latest. The answer to your question is NOBODY KNOWS. Honestly, NO ONE KNOOOWWWWSSSS. haha.
