Accepted to Marshall
got the letter today (may 1st… what wonderful day!! )

What if you took three classes this semester instead of four? are they going to hold that against you?

Congrats @McGreans

Congratulations McGreans!

@uscindian You’ll be okay as long as its full time, which traditionally means 12+ units

@Spiffyb0i that’s the thing, I dropped one of my classes before the W because I didn’t want to sacrifice my GPA so now I only have 9 units. But I’ve been a full time student through out my college career. I even listed on my app that I’m only taking three classes this semester

Has it only been people from Marshall that got the admissions packet in the mail or has there been any others?

@uscindian Do you mind sharing with me how many units you’ve completed and what level are you trying to enter USC as? From what I’ve read, USC definitely wants you to stay full time as do most private universities. If, with those 9 units, you’ll have 64 (assuming you transfer as a junior) then it shouldn’t be too bad. If you’re a sophomore applicant, then I can definitely see them rejecting you for that unless you had really good stats in high school. Judging from your post, it seems that you’re desiring to enter as a junior.

@turndown4what Read through the thread…Dornsife and Viterbi applicants have received admission packets as well. Not sure about the others.

@Trojfan131 that is what I thought also but just wasn’t sure I’ve been second guessing myself as of late haha and no I am transferring from a CC in Texas. HBY???

@Paguy8 Nice! I am currently in my first year at a CC here in Illinois, where I am still fearing it may snow any day!

Im from PA and I am so glad I am out of snow!!! Hopefully you can get into SC and you will never want to return to the cold haha @Trojfan131

Hey i’m also a transfer applicant looking to enroll at USC! But i only have a 2.3, but i have very outstanding extra circulars. I wasn’t going to apply seeing how my gpa is totally ■■■■…but my CC counselor said because of my EC’s i should give it a shot. Now don’t judge me…but my EC’s do include porn star auditions…(I didn’t like school in high school and i so totally never thought i’d be applying to any colleges) but my counselor told me that i should add that on my application. Along with the porn star auditions after i graduated high school a year early with a 3.5 gpa (yes and this was with me half-assing so i know i’m capable) I also held a job as a counselor for middle school kids (totally hated it but i made the impression that i enjoyed it to USC). On top of all of this my sister’s brother in law has given me an invite to be interviewed for a possible acceptance into the porn industry for a rookie type position. This would help me majorly with finances while attending USC, but i don’t think i’ll commit. I even told one of the admissions officers and they said i have an interesting story and EC’s. Even so, at least i know i’ll totally have something good to fall back on if i don’t get accepted. I forgot to mention that i did get into UCSB, UCSD, and UC Mercede…so i guess i have those options to (I’m pretty sure it was due to my essay an EC’s because once again i have a 2.3 CC gpa). So what do you guy’s think? Does a brunette 19 yr old girly like me have a chance? Or am i doomed for USC. Be honest ppl please and thanks.

@finefreshfierce As a prospective Annenberg applicant for Fall 2015, why do you think the acceptance rate is so low (besides it being a good journalism school)? If you don’t mind me asking, what types of journalism related EC’s do you have?

@Paguy8 You are not kidding hahaha. I remember it snowed here a couple of weeks ago, and I nearly had a heart attack because I had convinced myself that Winter had been finally put behind us…

@Samantha19 It is good to hear that you have a story that will hopefully allow you to stand out for USC. But I’m not gonna lie, they place the GPA at a high level of importance. Were you able to do an adequate job of explaining what happened this year, and how you would make sure to maintain a high GPA if admitted? It sounds like you are well-rounded in every facet except the GPA, which unfortunately may act as an anchor. You absolutely have a chance, but it could hinge on what majors you are applying for. Good luck!

@Spiffyb0i I actually am planning to enter as a sophomore. As of right now, I have 36-37 units completed, not sure though. And I’m currently taking 9. On my common app for current courses, I clearly told them I’m only taking three and I even showed initiative and sent them midterm reports.

I received an SGR a couple of days ago so I hope they saw that I’m taking only 9 units because if they did see and I didn’t get rejected outright, maybe that’s a good sign. My regional counselor told me to just finish out my semester strong and not to worry about that. It’s pretty vague advice so idk what to make of it.

@Samantha19 Well you certainly have an interesting story and seem to have something different to offer USC. I think you should focus on bringing your GPA up to make you academically competitive.

@Trojfan131 yeah I heard it is still pretty bad I will be up that way in less than 2 weeks and I am used to low 80’s with a breeze!

@Trojfan131 yeah dude i totally understand where you’re cuming from regarding my gpa lol. But i did get a chance to tell them why my efforts fell so poorly as opposed to my 3.5 gpa in high school. My hope, is that they will see my high school gpa and realize i am capable of getting better grades.

@scahopeful Yes i so definitely NEED to increase my gpa…but i’m hopng USC will give me a chance to show them that at their institution. I have good letters of rec as well. I mean i sort of apologize to all of you guys who have like 3.2+ gpa’s working so hard…only to hear me get accepted and one of you guys rejected
But if i do get in i’ll totally make it worth my while

I’ll become the best and smartest, cutest burnette girl USC ever did see!

Hey so I was wondering, if another school has a deadline say for instance today to submit your letter of intent to receive their financial aid… will other schools see this?
