I am a Junior Marshall applicant with a 3.91 college GPA and I have had straight A’s for the last 3 semesters. I took a calculus exam this morning and I’m pretty sure I failed hard. This means that I might get a B in the class… I’m wondering, if I get a SGR am I totally f**ked?? Calc and English are the only prereqs for my major and I worry that getting a B in one of those will screw me. I did get an A in the first semester of calculus, however. THIS STRESS :((

@transfersammy Me too!! </3 mine is due next friday and it’s just terrible. i really hope they’d let us know sooner rather than later
And okay. That makes sense. I’ll just go back to my anxious mood and wander around my mailbox lol

For those of you who got in…did you receive an email from usconnect letting you know to check usconnect? I called admin abt a week ago and the person told me that that would be the case but as far as i know, all i know is that decisions come out in the mail and you can check usconnect as you please but i didn’t know that usc would email you that to check usconnect once your status has changed.

@dmdwelle I don’t think one B will affect you as much as you think although no one can actually give you the real answer. With a B in calculus 2, you will probably end up with around a 3.88 and that still puts you above the average 3.7 transfer GPA. Yes, Calc is a pre-req for Marshall but no where does it specifically say that getting a B in calculus will lower your chances. All that is said is that they expect B+/A- work in all your classes. In my uninformed opinion, you’re chances are the same as they were before the B since you are taking “real” calculus and not just business calculus. Above 64 units and a 3.9ish GPA is pretty impressive regardless.

When are we able to register for classes? I see that I have an appointment on 8/20, is that the earliest we can? Thank you

everybody should read through USC’s transfer brochure. Here is the link http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/docs/TransferringToUSC_2014.pdf

@dmdwelle calm down dude…you have a 3.9 you have a pretty good chance (high chance) at being accepted. I on the other hand have a great story, great letters of rec…but only a 3.2-3.4 gpa…so I’m the one who should be anxious as heck. But I’m pretty confident my gpa doesn’t fully show my potential…I think it’s more of the person you are and how hard you will work to get your degree. I totally didn’t start off too well when I first began CC which is why my gpa suffered. But like I said…I truly do not believe someone with a 3.9 gpa is significantly better than someone with a 3.2 or 3.3…sure it may (show) them as being more competitive. …but you can only truly decide who’s more determined by the individuals attitudes and determination. Because I’ve known ppl that had 3.9 and 4.0 that went to Berkeley, ucla, and yes even usc and they couldn’t survive…While some ppl with a 3.2-3.5 could. Just trying to make some ppl aware that just because you have an incredibly high gpa doesn’t necessarily mean success at the next level…that all depends on who you really are inside and how much YOU really want to succeed!

I totally agree with @kyle2015

Thanks @HopeForMarshall and @kyle2015. I’m trying not to worry but I suppose that’s my personality type. I guess I should probably spend more time focusing on finishing this semester strong, instead of checking Connect and this forum so often. ;))

OH, but there is another thing that I was reminded of after reading the transfer brochure just now. My USC Transfer GPA is only 3.5, because re-took a couple of courses I failed (like 8 year ago). Since USC counts both grades, that knocks it down a bit. So yeah, now I’m even more worried. Lol.

Just found out that usc requested spring term grades for my app. Now, I am really worried. Is an sgr an bad sign?

@almxy45 We discussed what an SGR means. Some people believe it is a good sign, showing you’re a contender for admission. Others have a more negative view towards it and think it’s more like a wait list.

Thanks, I am kind of worried though because my gpa dropped this semester because I had really hard classes . Any ways, how do you send in an spring term grade request?

Hi guys! been following the thread since page one, and finally decided to make an account! just wanted to let you all know I got an SGR today, I’m currently a freshman at a CC. Stay patient and fight on! :)

@joshpick Nice, man! Sounds like you’re definitely on your way to being accepted. And you’re right, connections/experience are totally what it’s about. One of my teachers is a good friend of the Popular Music director and called to recommend me to the program.

Anyways, keep us posted, man!

Do SGR/Acceptances come in the form of mail first? Or are you guys getting emails, checking USC connect, or what?

@kyle2015 We’re in the exact same boat man! Good luck to you!

my SGR came online first, haven’t gotten letter yet!

@takemetoUSC
Which major did you apply to?

@kmc357 I was randomly checking USC Connect and an SGR was already there.

Has anyone that has already been accepted received any merit based scholarships?
Do they let you know if you got a scholarship at the same time you are accepted or do they tell you a week or two later?

does having a letter from an alumni boost your chances a lot during the application process?
Also does listing a relative as a legacy boost your chances?

I actually have an aunt who is alumni but did not put her down on my application and don’t know if I should try and get that added
