Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

Exactly. Around 800 applied to annenberg and around 60 to 75 are offered admission. Its not one of the bigger schools at sc

@Trojfan131‌

Can someone send me a link where it shows acceptance/application numbers per each specific school? I can’t find it anywhere online.

And only 7.5%…? Wow… this is going to be hard… haha

@trojfan131 It may be true that Annenberg will only accept 60/800 applicants. That doesn’t mean that 740 people are going to be denied admission to USC just because they chose one of the more competitive majors. They might offer you admission in another major or allow you to come in undeclared if you don’t have over 60 units.

@whamson Absolutely, I have no disagreement with you there. I was just clarifying what @JR2013 was saying in regards to the acceptance rate for Annenberg alone.

@whamson‌ I thought that if you were a junior transfer, you had to declare a major. And if they do reject you from your first choice, are the chances high for letting them admit you to your second choice (lets say dornslife)?

Today in oasis it shows a new date in my financial aid section to 05/09/14 & prior to that it was 04/18/14. So … Just seeing a little change in my acct until I can send in my spring grades in two wks. Yea!

@ahahan I am a first year hoping to transfer. I am not sure on junior transfer. And I would assume that there is a chance on getting admitted to your second choice. Why would they even give that option if you wouldn’t be considered? I really wish that someone from USC would come on here and answer all of these questions haha.

Do you guys think Annenberg hopefuls will hear decisions next week?

@fadumbear‌

I’m applying for Film/TV Production also. I want to double major in Film/TV Production and Business Administration and minor in Marketing. My GPA at my current university is 3.88 (may change this semester or stay the same) but if they take into account some of the other coursework I’ve done before this past year, it goes down to 3.83 with 27 credits completed, 18 nearly completed for the spring (one more final) and 5 in progress for Summer Session I. My Marshall pre reqs are officially completed. I have majority of the GE’s completed. Sufficient degree progress (Sophomore standing as of 12/13 and will be junior as of 12/14), upward trend, etc. Very unique high school situation, I graduated 2 years earlier than my age should’ve allowed–I should actually be a junior in high school right now but instead, I’m a Sophomore in college. I also went through a few tragically life changing events within the past 3 years that I didn’t address fully (really didn’t want to relive them) but alluded to in my application.

My essays were okay. My SCA writing supplements were actually a bit better than my USC writing supplements (besides my quicktakes–doubt they look at those but they really painted a picture of who I am).

I have one EC that stands out (out of about 5 recent ones) because of the fact that we teach children of all ages with self esteem issues how to fly airplanes and I record documentaries for the kids to track their growth in the program. My other EC’s are sports/activism/business related. I didn’t list any random volunteer work or anything from my rather small film portfolio (I live in Indiana–not many resources out there for creative minds). I have 3 letters of rec. (probably all together more personal than impersonal)

@scahopeful that seems like a solid application. Your GPA is better than mine.

I am applying to Film/TV Production with a GPA of 3.4 with 45 units completed, 15 in progress, and 3 in the summer. Almost all of those classes were GE classes and most of them were rigorous classes. I have finished most of the GE requirements and today was my last day of instruction. I as well have an upward trend in my GPA, but it is only slight. I had two good letters of recommendation, one from my Churches youth minister who I shoot a lot of videos for ( I am basically in charge of all Audio and Visual elements at my church). The other letter of recommendation was from my script writing teacher who was an alumni of the SCA program and actually taught at USC for some time as well.

My essays mostly spoke about my unique passion for film and the reason why I choose film as my medium to express myself. For my writing sample I chose the 4 minute short film treatment. I believe it was solid and really showed my unique style. I had a decent portfolio which mostly consisted of my past material because I have been too busy to film any projects lately.

My EC were track and cross country for 4 years in high school and 1 year in college. I filmed the track and cross country videos shown at the end of the seasons for 3 years. I do a lot of volunteer work for my church and film a lot of events/promotional stuff. My video I submitted was unique. It was some of my old work but I explained that I submitted it because I had been able to create something nice looking with little resources available. Overall, I think I have a decent chance, but my GPA is kinda low. I believe that your application is definitely unique and you have a great chance.

@fadumbear Thanks, I think you do as well.

My main writing sample was complex but clearly expressed. I didn’t write it like a treatment but many people are saying they did. I hope that doesn’t hurt me. My visual sample was more story driven with a bit of my personal style though I couldn’t really do much as far as stylistic elements because I just simply didn’t have the resources. I really want to go into directing and production so I can combine my business expertise with my creativity, philanthropy (I wish Marshall had a Philanthropy minor like we do here) and ability to ideate.

I think you have a great chance especially considering your concentration. There seems to be many people who apply to SCA who want to be cinematographers. I remember reading somewhere that they like people with technical interests/background in film.

@5nonnegotiables‌ I got activity too on my financial aid account. It’s good news for me because they haven’t touched my account in over three weeks, and without any Oasis or USConnect updates I was pretty worried. But I think I’m still in the running or why else would they update my financial aid?

Anyone else have any recent financial aid updates on Oasis? Mine was on 5/7/14 the previous being 4/1614

Has ANYBODY heard ANYTHING about ANYTHING regarding Viterbi admissions for transfer students? To be honest, all I have heard about is with regards to Dornsife and Annenberg, with a few Marshall references thrown in the mix.

@wdemasters02‌ my financial aid was updated on 05/09, my previous being 03/27. I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much because from what I have heard/read Fin. Aid and Admissions are two separate entities. But at the same time its practically the middle of May, admissions has surely rejected some applicants by now, so the fact that our financial aid is still being updated has to be somewhat of a good sign? I mean if we were rejected it seems logical that admissions would inform the Fin. Aid department so they don’t waste their time working on our financial aid packages? I don’t know…What does someone else think?

Are you guys checking your financial aid via Oasis? If not, could you share how you’re checking?! heheh Thank you!

so i’m guessing i was maybe rejected since a couple dornsife acceptances went out and i only have a 3.2-3.4 gpa for sociology and i haven’t heard anything back from them at all. No sgr…nothing…smh i’m just going to forget about usc who’s going to wait to give me my rejection letter in june smh. I wish they’d just send the rejected ppl their letters now…it would save us all the worry and we wouldn’t have to be bothered about usc anymore…why torture ppl and have them wait till june??..

come on USC just let us know damn it

@pjhayton‌ Read through the thread…the first acceptance was from a Viterbi applicant. Also, I think there has been more Marshall acceptances than just “a few”.

@kyle2015 I wouldn’t assume that at all… Just have patience… You never know

@Sanderella24‌ I received an email form USC informing me that my financial aid had been updated, but you can also check it on Oasis. Just log-in and click on the “Financial Information” tab and then scroll down and click on “Financial Aid Document Status” and it will show in big red letters when you financial aid was updated last. :-)

If I could log into Oasis, I would absolutely do that ;( @Jazz49
