Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

@scahopeful‌ I think my interview went well. I’ve heard of several applicants in past years and one other this year that were interviewed either over the phone, on Skype, or in person. It just depends on whoever is reviewing your application and if they feel the need to contact you for more info. Not getting an interview doesn’t seem to be any indication of not doing well.

@pjhayton I currently attend USC and applied as a transfer to Viterbi last year. I did not get notified about the SGR until around the deadline they gave and then I didn’t hear back on that until June. I would not worry much about the timing. Viterbi is pretty slow.

@kyle2015‌ I wouldn’t worry about not getting an sgr or an acceptance right now. If you look at past threads, usc has accepted some applicants in the 3.3 - 3.5 range. And even if you do get rejected, you can ask usc to look at your application again and ask for an admissions appeal. So, don’t assume the worst just yet.

@LAHarbor24‌ … I would not bank on it. It’s too early.

@ahahanjun‌ … Annenberg is competitive because it’s so small, and depending on the major, the admissions pool gets smaller. But that is also one of the benefits. I often feel tucked away in my own little college, with its own culture and work ethic. The school is pretty tight-knit as a result, which has also helped me network with alumni.

@RandomNewGuy‌ Do you know how hard it is to transfer into Annenberg once you’re admitted to USC? Thanks!

Im a little lost but what does Oasis do exactly? Like what is it for?

Guys, my friend and me got official notification as Econ major!! Actually we already knew we got accepted because we have called or consoler on Wednesday. Our consoler even made decision ON PHONE!!! Anyway, hope all you guys will hear good news back soon!!!

@lovemutton congrats!! If you don’t mind, can you post your stats on here?

@pjhayton Applied to Viterbi, nothing yet. I’ve only heard of one acceptance and that was probably a special circumstance or something because it was insanely early, around early April. I’d be surprised if they’ve even accepted from the general pool yet.

Does anyone know how the chain of command works? Do our admission counselors actually make the decisions or do they make notes on our file and then send it the dean of admission? I would think if this were the case, the admission process would take even longer. Any ideas?

@Sanderella24‌ I have no idea how USC Admissions works specifically, but from what I have read it is very common for your file to be reviewed and scored by up to three admissions officers to determine if you are a good candidate for the University. If you make it through this qualifying round then your file gets passed to the department/school you applying to for approval. If you’re approved then your regional counselor goes to bat for you in front of a committee and they have a final vote. Again, I don’t know if this is how it works at USC, but it’s probably at least similar. Just speculating.

Wow, that’s a huge process… no wonder it takes a long time @dmdwelle

Anyone have a high gpa, really strong app/essays/E.C.'s applying for dornsife not hear back yet?

@mpccbt if we’re in, we’ll hear this week or the next. Do you go to MPC?

Okay I have two buddies that got into dornsife this week (one ECON and one SOC) and I was starting to worry. They’re gpa’s are a bit higher (3.92 & 3.95) maybe that’s why. Also, their last names start with letters at the beginning of the alphabet. I keep hearing that the admissions process might be alphabetical. And yes I do! Do you?

For people who got accepted. When do you get your USC email and sign up for an orientation.

I already paid for my enrollment fee,

@mpccbt I go to MPC too. I’m a Dornsife neuroscience major, though. Neuro has only sent out SGR’s so far. My last name is at the beginning of the alphabet, but I honestly don’t think it’s alphabetical. What major did you apply to?

@sielburt‌ have you heard anything back from usc yet?

I don’t think it’s alphabetical because their have been a variety of last names

@almxy45‌ nope, I haven’t heard anything yet. I’m going to continue to be hopefully optimistic about when I’ll hear back. Hoping for next week!
