Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

@sielburt‌ sociology. I’m checking my connect and oasis numerous times a day and nothing! Seeing all these people get decisions (including my friends) is making me soo anxious! Hahha

@MPCCBT‌ I know… I remember feeling the same thing two years ago. Just hang in there! I know it isn’t the best advice and that it doesn’t help much, but we have finals coming up in less than a month. Stay focused and try your best to remain positive!

@hepburn95‌ … It depends on your major and everything (I’ve heard Communications is easier than Journalism). I was actually rejected from Annenberg and accepted into Dornsife. On the day of my orientation, I filed to change my major, which really didn’t help that much. But I also hassled Annenberg and wrote the dean of admissions directly, until they finally got sick of me and accepted me into the school.

But it’s definitely feasible and is not nearly as hard as, say, transferring into SCA.

@RandomNewGuy‌ When you applied, did you set your second choice in Dornsife so you got in ?
I set both my first and second choices within Annenberg. Does that mean I couldn’t have chances to get in other schools?

Anyone here applied to Journalism?

Do we compete with the applicants of the same MAJOR or just same SCHOOL?

@goforusc12‌ … I put my first and second choice within Annenberg, but was rejected. The university reserves the right to grant you admission as Undeclared within Dornsife if it thinks you will be a good student. Combined with a generous financial aid package, I thought it was worth the gamble to take the offer and try to transfer into Annenberg. But I’m anomaly and I cannot stress enough that it is a gamble.

Realistically, you compete for the slots available for your major. That said, I’m sure there’s some flexibility. I dunno. I’m not an admissions expert.

@MPCCBT im also a soc. major, what are your stats if you dont mind me asking?

@uscindian 3.57 with an extreme upward trend in grades which is apparently appealing to USC. I got a 3.26 freshman year with 27 units, was partying and messing around too much I guess. This fall semester (sophomore year) I took 20 units (7 classes) and got a 4.0. Unbelievable essays (wrote about how enriching my experience at Community College was and how the time has come for me to move on to USC and continue to grow into the person I aspire to be and how USC will allow for me to do that), great letters of rec, and pretty good E.C.'s including an internship as a marketing developer at a real estate company, 3 year Varsity Athlete, Youth Baseball and Soccer coach, significant involvement with Special Olympics and Boys and Girls club. Also my brother graduated this past spring from USC if that helps at all. What about you?

Got a SGR. Looks like the ride isn’t over yet

Blah! Did it just change tonight @hopeitworks ?

@Hopeitworks What school? Also, please post your stats on the decision thread if you can!

@Karlos did you get your financial aid package/summary?

@MPCCBT 3.51 with an extreme upward trend also. I went to Cal Poly Pomona last year and got a 2.9, 3.3, then 3.6. I think my cumulative throughout all three quarters was about the same as you 3.27 and then i went to a cc this year to better my chances. I got a 4.0 first semester and planning on getting a 4.0 this semester too. I got SGRed on April 29. I think I would have 46-47 total units available to transfer so that would put me at sophomore standing. My ECs listed were 2 years of basketball in high school, volunteering with children for my city, being a basketball referee for my city’s youth league, internship at a hospitality management company within one of their hotels this past summer, worked at Cal Poly Pomona’s Fitness Center as a sports official and marketer, 3 letters of rec. Finished all the required classes besides one that I am currently taking this semester. My GPA isnt competitive but I’m hoping they give me some type of break because i went to a university last year. I feel like if i had gone to community college for both years, my gpa would be significantly higher like 3.8ish.

i got my official package today in the mail! no status change or anything on usconnect. totally a surprise! :)

@Sandrella24 Yeah, it said it changed today. A friend of mine said his changed today as well.
@cidzor Dornsife. Will post my stats.

@saltedcashews‌ Congratulations! Were you checking for changes on OASIS as well as Connect? Oh and if you could post your stats on the Decisions thread, that would be awesome! Happy for you!

@saltedcashews what a surprise that totally must have been dude. You should celebrate by eating some cashews…them nuts are the best lol

But all in all congrats.

Congratulations @Hopeitworks and @saltedcashews !

@uscindian well let’s hope that USC will recognize that its obviously MUCH more challenging at a University rather than a Community College. Bust out that 4.0 this spring semester and you’ll be good! Stay positive, you have great E.C.’'s and you’d make a great candidate for next years transfer class!

Congrats to everyone that has received their acceptance letters. Meanwhile, have any of the SCA applicants heard anything yet?
