Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

@cindyoh95‌ same question here! Does anybody know the sgr rate? I have searched online and there is one answer like: SGR is a good sign. If your major is not that competitive, you will most likely get in. If you major is competitive, it might fill up fast.

@itzsupermanyo‌ I don’t think anyone has any idea, and if they give you a number, it’s likely not based in fact, but opinion.

Does anyone know how competitive PR is compared to other Annenberg majors? Thanks!
@RandomNewGuy‌ perhaps?

There isn’t a statistic for SGRs. People with SGRs battle it out for the spots left that weren’t taken by the people who were and will be accepted. Just make sure your grades are top notch because SGRs are just a heads up that they’re looking for you to be competitive for the final decision when they decide who gets in. If you have an SGR, then your stats are most likely a little more than or equal to the average of USCs perspective or they don’t have enough info to accept you and compare you to other people just yet. Isn’t it obvious? It’s competitive, and they want the best of the best out of the perspective students who applied. Obviously there are factors when it comes to peoples individual applications but in my opinion, this is most likely how they do things. (Just a logical opinion from a friendly USC applicant)

do all major requirement courses have to be completed before spring?

@stephchrista The only things that you absolutely HAVE to have finished are the math class and the writing requirement. Everything else is merely helpful to keep you on pace for graduation.

However, there may be courses for specific majors that need to be finished. That depends on what major you are applying for.

Just got accepted last night!!! bs in Health promotion and disease prevention studies. I applied as a sophomore transfer and wasn’t really expecting much. Everyone keep your head and just hope for the best!! No matter what happens you guys will end up some place amazing iA.

@bilkal Congrats. Can you post your stats?

Psychology/Dornsife and did not get SGR yet… :confused: anyone on the same page as me?

@transfersammy Keep in mind that like others have said, there are still plenty of decisions to be released this week. So please do not let this build up inside of you, especially if you still have Finals to go!

@trofan131 URgh yes… thank you for the reminder!

Congrats to those who got in!!! I’ve just got a question. Are the admission conditions in the admission packet the same as in the electronic version in Usconnect? I haven’t got my packet yet. But my usconnect reads

“Please remember that your admission is contingent upon verification of official
academic records, satisfactory completion of course work, and avoidance of
academic and behavioral misconduct.”

What exactly does “satisfactory completion of course work” mean?

does anyone know how competitive the english major is? I understand it is within dornsife, but I’m curious as to if they accept a certain number of each major or just the school in general. I can’t seem to find whether or not the english department is extremely competitive to transfer into…thanks for any info guys!!

@marty212‌ Thanks for the very informative response man, much appreciated. Just wondering, what was your GPA when you sent in your second semester SGR?

@Trojfan131‌ You absolutely HAVE to have the writing requirement done in order to even be concerned for acceptance? I took AP Lit and got credit for that, so I’m not sure if that covers it; other than that, though, I haven’t taken a writing course this year (I’m a first-year).

@pjhayton yes, you absolutely need to have writ 140 equivalent completed. It’s technically the 2nd semester writing course. Example, ENG 100 - College level writing and ENG 103 critical reading/Writing . The brochure states that you HAVE to take two semesters of English composition to be considered. AP literature (English or American) won’t count.

@HopeforMarshall @pjhayton You only need to have 1 semester of it done if you’re transferring from a university.

From USC’s admission blog:

“Q: I have only taken one semester of English. Does that mean USC will immediately reject me if I don’t take another semester of English?
A: We expect that students at community colleges will have completed two semesters of English composition before enrolling at USC. At the very least, you may have the second semester of English composition in progress at the time you apply. IMPORTANT NOTE: We are more flexible with our writing requirement for transfer applicants coming from four year institutions. We understand that each four year university has its own general education requirements and not all institutions have courses equivalent to our writing requirement. The two semester writing requirement can be waived for admission purposes but it will have to be completed in order to earn a degree at USC.”

Lately I’ve been having dreams that Connect says I’ve been accepted or SGR’d… and then I start to wake up and am not sure whether it really happened or not. And then the sad realilty sets in.

Do you guys think usc will still be giving out SGRS? I feel that whoever was supposed to get them , got it already. Also looking at last years thread, by May 12th mostly everyone got their SGR. Just concluding here!

@maymonroe94‌ People get SGR’s up until the deadline

@maymonroe94‌

Last year’s thread was an anomaly considering that there was just a few people that posted their stats. Secondly you have to take into account two things:

 1. The date at which everything started last year and other years was later then the date decisions this year began to come out.
 2. You can’t ignore decisions of past years 2010-13, after checking those out I realized a pattern, they do everything in waves. The big one in comparison to other years would be for us around this Tuesday until next Friday.

So just don’t panic be calm and stay busy, good luck and FIGHT ON!
