Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

Very interesting note. I got my SGR on May 5th, which is relatively early for Annenberg. But as I had thought it over, with the possibility of being accepted as an undeclared rather than the majors originally applied for, I had thought that I had been basically rejected for both Broadcast and Print Journalism (the ones I applied for). So I called them up, and after a pressure filled wait for someone to answer, they said that I was SGR’ed for Broadcast Journalism and Public Relations (even though my second choice was originally Print Journalism). Needless to say, I was extremely relieved, but I just thought it was interesting that I was switched to Public Relations for my second choice.

@jack2011 Yea, it seems in general, there are some awesome OOC games being formulated in general. This year is gonna be awesome too, with games like MSU Oregon, Wisconsin LSU, Oklahoma State Florida State, and West Virginia Bama in the opening week alone. I love when the year kicks off like that

@Trojanfan131 So i have not been SGRd or accepted/rejected, and both my first and second choice were Annenberg majors. Went on oasis today and my stars reports are filled out and I have updated restrictions but my major shows up as undeclared. Should I call and ask about it or wait until I receive official word from them? Also, do you think me being a sophomore going in led to getting labeled as undeclared?

@olo59u I would definitely call them up, just to confirm if that is actually what you will be accepted for, because they will tell you. As for the sophomore question, not necessarily. This may mean that they may like you and want you as a student, but in the case that you actually were accepted as an undeclared, they just couldn’t offer you admission into Annenberg.

Give them a call, and hopefully they tell you that you’re in Annenberg as well! Good luck!

PS: Maybe since you found out through Oasis, act like you don’t know yet when you call up lol. You have in all likelihood been accepted, but I don’t think they like us finding out things through Oasis.

@RawShark I have nothing changed on anything. No mail or anything. I remember emailing my counselor a few times a few months ago and never getting anything back. I actually haven’t heard from USC (besides scholarship deadline reminders and mass email) since mid February.

@greengecko‌ USC is Marshall but NYU is CAS. I want to do entertainment so both schools are good. So I can’t decide. If I enroll in NYU, I can’t change my mind if USC accept me, right?

@Trojanfan131 haha yeah that’s what I’ll do when I get an official notice from them. In your opinion, is it worth it going there if I do not get in to Annenberg as a sophomore transfer?

@scahopeful‌ I wouldn’t let that bother you. We’ll all get our responses soon enough. You may find that they had no need to contact you, because they already had all the info they needed, and you got in. I know I’m stressing too, but we’ve got to try to stay positive. Otherwise, we’ll be crazy by the time we hear from them.

Sorry I haven’t been on in awhile. I got my acceptance package last Thursday as a Music Industry major!!! I’m going to USC!!! Found out about Financial Aid about 5 days later. Also received a package yesterday from USC. Thornton sent me a Thornton School of Music sweatshirt!!! Nice little touch and great advertising idea. Wish you all the best of luck!!!

@joshpick‌ Congratulations!

@RawShark yeah, haha. I’m not really stressed about it now since summer school started and is shifting my focus

Anyone find out about housing? I just got into Regal Trojan. Does anyone know anything about it? Good? People?

@olo59u Well, I don’t know what your relationship is with USC. But while I would love for the opportunity to go to USC, if I did not get accepted for Broadcast Journalism, I would likely not attend. As fantastic as USC is as a school, I wouldn’t want to go there JUST to go there, you know?

So it comes down to what you want with Journalism. If you’re dead set on doing Journalism and for some reason do not get accepted into Annenberg, unless you really really want to go to USC, I would look at your other options. Because as I’m sure you know, as long as you get the internships and other sources of experience during college, you are putting yourself in a fantastic position to start a career in Journalism, regardless of where you attend.

@Trojanfan131 Yeah, that makes sense. My first choice major is print/online and annenberg looks amazing and it’s my dream. But, if did not get in there and the chances of internally transfer are incredibly slim, I do not think I would attend because my other option is Northeastern University in Boston and they have an amazing co-op program that would help with experience in the field.

@olo59u Yea exactly, Northeastern would be a great place to go as well, and Boston is another nice market to start in. What do you want to do in print/online journalism, if you don’t mind my asking?

Fellow SCA applicants - just checked my mail & still nothing yet.

@jessebest If you enroll/accept at NYU, you can definitely pull out and withdraw even though you put down a deposit - however, it’s not refundable. There must be a school that sticks out to you!

I am in a very similar situation as you actually. I was recently accepted to NYU Tisch Film & TV and am required to enroll/accept by May 20. Since USC is my first choice, however, I have to wait it out until I hear (or not hear) back from USC. I plan on enrolling on May 19 if I don’t get a response from USC, but in the case I do hear back before May 20, I’m not going to do anything with NYU. If I hear back from USC and I get in on May 21, then I will have to lose that $500 or so deposit from NYU. The situation is similar - it honestly really just depends on where you WANT to go.

Just got an email from USC titled “2014-2015 Financial Aid Information for Transfer Students”

Anyone else get this as well?

@ipodtouch99 Yep, I got it too. I’m 100% positive this is just a friendly reminder for all transfer students.

@ipodtouch99‌ @greengecko‌ I didn’t get it. :(
