Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

@olo59u‌ … Congrats, man. Even though I know that’s not what you necessarily wanted. And yes, I was able to transfer into Annenberg, but it took some persistence and maybe, I dunno, luck. I was already contemplating majoring in Dornsife and declaring a minor in Annenberg, just so I could take classes there.

But I was also developing other backup plans, including trying to transfer into a new program that launched in SCA and other crazy ideas. It was honestly @alamemom‌ that convinced me to not give up on transferring into Annenberg. And it paid off.

If you do end up taking the offer, the best advice I can give you is immediately request to change your major at orientation and try to communicate via phone/email with admissions folks within Anennberg as much as possible. I know this year it’s tougher, simply because all the stats look more selective and the school had more applications than ever before. People want to work in the new building, upward trends, etc.

If it makes you feel better, I sat down with the dean of admissions for Annenberg this past year to thank her (for giving me the opportunity to transfer) and we had a good chat. I told her not to give up on transfer students, because - hey! - look at me. Especially ones that did not immediately get in. So you have that going for you.

@NCXfer‌ … Communications is always more difficult than Undeclared at Dornsife because, as you can see, the university simply has more spots open in Dornsife.

I know that this has already been addressed, but I am not sure how to get into this Oasis account. When I go to the actual website, it asks for a USC email and a bunch of other info that I don’t have. All I have is my prospective student ID number. I did not apply for any financial aid, but am hoping to see any information that the admissions may have updated on me…any help? Thanks

@plaurance94‌ i have the exact same problem… Cant login eighter and i want to know if some stuff is updated

@Lasting‌ but when you say sign up for the classes of your major…what major?

@jojoanna yes, I got accepted into Northeastern a few weeks ago!

@RandomNewGuy thanks so much, it just feels bittersweet cause I am not even sure if this is better than an SGR for Annenberg, but you’re right I mean I am sure that if I am persistent and dedicated enough I can transfer in there once I am there. It’s just about taking that chance. You said you were gonna minor in Annenberg as one of your backup plans, so does that mean you can do one of their minors without being in Annenberg? Either way, if I do choose to accept the offer I feel like I am gonna need some kind of reassurance that I have a good shot at internally transferring so I am gonna call ASAP and see what my options are.

Yeah, you can always minor in something like sports media and take courses in Annenberg. You don’t need to be in Annenberg to take some courses offered by the school. I registered for J201 and the GEs I had to fulfill at orientation, just to hedge my bets. Worst case scenario was that I got a journalism elective out of the scenario, best case was that I fulfilled one of my major requirements.

So it looks like my Oasis was accessed 5/7/14 and writing 140 was added as a Spring 2014 class (which is inaccurate), but nothing has changed since then. Probably a bad sign, huh?

@RandomNewGuy‌ do you know how to get set up into oasis?

@odinhelpme That is exactly what mine looks like. I think it’s a bad sign.

So much for “admission decisions are sent out as they are made and finalized”.

@RandomNewGuy Gotcha. Well, that’s at least some encouraging news. Definitely gonna have to think about this decision a lot haha.

@fadumbear‌ @scahopeful‌
Stats:
Transferring from: CCC
Entering as: Junior
GPA: 4.0 cumulative
Units Completed: 78
Units In Progress: 5 (I’m currently in the 2nd week of my summer semester)
Pre-reqs Completed: Math & writing.
GE’s completed: everything but language - I’m currently in a Spanish class.

Subjective:
EC’s: Alpha Gamma Sigma honor society - I served as Vice Pres and President. Several academic awards. Lots of theatre experience including performing at a prestigious theatre in my area. Heavy community service background including the creation and organization of several community service projects.

My SCA application - I think my essays were fairly good. The interview I had with a professor at SCA went really well & he liked my visual sample a lot. One of my letters of rec was phenomenal.

@olo59u‌ Did your status on USConnect change?

@scahopeful I think by the end of this semester, I’ll have a full 64 units, but I’m unsure which or how many will transfer over. I’ll probably have to sign a petition to get certain classes to transfer because they probably don’t count some of my liberal arts classes as classes. We’ll see.

Or are you asking something else? Am I supposed to see how many units are being transferred in Oasis?

@odinhelpme Where did you see that message?

@greengecko‌ that’s a direct quote from a tweet that USC admissions sent to someone on twitter.

@matthiasstoopman‌ can you let me know if you figure it out? Thanks

@plaurance94‌ yeah man for sure! I don’t know if I will be able to access OASIS cause I already tried so many time past week. But yeah hopefully I will get the DHL email very soon “if” they still do that.

For those whose Star report have been updated, how can you find out how many units you have, along with the classes you’ve taken?

@GreenGecko You answered my question. I highly doubt I get in to SCA considering that I don’t think I have 48 transferable units. I just wanted to see if any SCA applicant got in with less than 48 transferable units (not just actual credits but actual credits that transfer). You must have had at least 48 that transferred.

so does usc send spring grade requests to all transfers or just some? and decisions are coming out by june 3rd correct?
