Is it bad if you’re applying to go in as a sophomore and you haven’t been asked for your spring grades?

@chilambar Are you on the TTP? And what is your GPA and major?

@dmdwelle, Calculus, accounting and chemistry. I’m hoping it’s good enough lol

@hepburn95 unfortunately, I don’t think admissions look fondly on an applicant taking an excessive number of units and receiving a lower GPA…they would prefer the typical amount 12-18, with a high GPA, showing that the student is able to balance and prioritize, instead of overload…I made that mistake last year

@ccstudentIL Just speculating here, but if you got an SGR and have straight A’s in the Spring you are probably golden! Of course there have been reports of people getting SGR with straight A’s and still being rejected. But that’s probably the exception, not the rule. I would just make sure you send in your grades as soon as possible!!!

@plaurance94 Sorry, I should have been more specific! My cumulative GPA (that I got SGRed with) is a 3.41, currently I am taking 22 units and have a 4.0. Would that change your answer? Thanks for the response!

@hepburn95 I don’t know what TTP means…but I put Theater/Undecided…and I have a 3.71 and I’m coming from the University of Rochester

@hepburn95 If you have 22 units in the spring with a 4.0, I think they would be crazy not to accept you! That shows a ton of dedication, and they are all about upward grade trends! I hope to see you on campus! :)

@hepburn95 ya definitely! that looks really good!

@chilambar TTP is Trojan Transfer Plan, and your GPA is good! I’m not sure what the average is for Theatre, but it’s above the average, so at the very least, you should get in for undecided. I wouldn’t be worried, a friend of mine who is applying as a sophomore just got her SGR last night. Give it some more time!

@dmdwelle @plaurance94 Thank you both very much! I hope to see you both in the fall!

what do you guys think they look for in essays? I’m just curious because the essay prompts aren’t exactly invitations to a tear jerking story or anything like that lol. Not like the UCs anyway.

I’m asking because all you have good GPAs and I am desperate for anything right now! LOL

@dmdwelle @hepburn95 I believe we came to the conclusion a few weeks ago that we can never really tell the outcome of an SGR. I think we agreed that SGRed applicants are the ones who have to battle it out for the remaining spots after those that were offered admission either accepted or declined their invitations. I think the idea is the only “additional information” that USC needs now is your grades and how they compare to other SGRs. Case-in-point, who knows what it means……this is depressing. I really am tired of waiting.

@HopeForMarshall Ugh, I know. I have finals this week, and I feel really confident about them, but I have no idea how long it’s going to take my professors to send grades in. I think their deadline isn’t until May 30th… I can’t take this waiting any more!

UC system here-- grades don’t come out until June 20th…

I have a pretty big dilemma. I currently have a SGR and I just got all my spring grades back. I did well on all subjects (especially quantitative subjects) except for my English class, one of the two pre-reqs for Marshall. It was suppose to be an easy A but due to a bad error on my part, I ended up with a B+. Will this severely hurt me since the English was one of the two pre-reqs? Should I write an accompanying letter explaining this? English was one of my strongest subjects in HS and I don’t want to send the wrong impressions.

@keepfighting1 You’re in my thoughts…

@bobo79 I wouldn’t be worried. I also wouldn’t write a letter, I don’t think they would read it, and even if they did, because they don’t ask for it, they might not be happy about it.

@keepfighting1 @hepburn95 the deadline to submit spring grades is June 30. I just sent mine in last week, hopefully I get an decision soon. Anyways, all we can do is wait and hope for the best now.

And good luck on your finals @hepburn95

If you have send in your spring grade requests, is there any chance you might hear back before the June 3rd deadline?

@almxy45 Thanks, I appreciate it! And yes, it is possible. A friend of mine heard around May 27th last year.

No SGR and no letter yet…any chance still? ):
