I’m saying that its taking more and more people, many times up to 6 years to graduate from day one as a freshman at uc’s. I’ve heard from a few people that its due to not being able to get into classes, teachers being furloughed, or classes not being offered the semester you need to take it. Im in the same situation as you, with finances and with paying for college, and I’m a jr. transfer. So weighing out schools, and if i get into sc…I’m figuring cost as two yrs. at sc vs maybe 3 yrs. at ucla. Not knowing what’s exactly going to transfer, I have about, at the end of this semester, 80+ credits coming in.

@keepfighting1 I don’t think it is any indication of your ranking in comparison to other students. I think they just review a chunk of applications, and then pick a day to send them, review another chunk, pick another day. You were probably just in a “later” chunk. Don’t worry!

On the subject of time it takes to graduate for transfer students on the last page. Does USC look down on you if you are a junior transfer that most likely won’t finish in two years? (Viterbi specifically…)

Guys, just because usc transfers you in as a junior Doesn’t mean you’ll graduate in 2 years for sure. They might not count some of your classes, like for example if your psychology major I know they don’t a count your stats class that you took at a community college. It all depends. Also you might drop a class if it doesn’t work out. To graduate in two years you’ll need to take 16 units every semester which is hard because your grades might fall. So nothing is for certain. I know this because I got friends at usc and other schools. And I know they only accept 60 transferable units. So those of you with more will not count

Also, don’t forget your financial package does not include your parking pass which costs around 400 dollars or food, gas, health insurance( if you don’t got one) , school supplies like books where each book costs like 300 dollars depending on book but there pretty expensive. also tuition goes up every year

@Surhov818 I’m pretty sure FA works to cover the Total Cost of Attendance, which does include the cost of food (meal plan, I’m assuming) and books. And if you live in apartment owned by USC, most of them have utilities included.

I am pretty sure its 64 units that transfer just to be specific, and as long as you follow the articulation agreement you should be fine with which classes do and don’t transfer. As for how long you take to graduate, I think that is a subjective matter.

Well oki, it depends what your major is and stuff for units. But yeah some of the things are not included in your fafsa package. Which in most cases kids get parent plus loans or get more loans to cover it. Just saying bc one one of my close friends goes there. And yeah living there is expensive that’s why my friend doesn’t. And yeah there are meal plans which give you a limit on how many swipes you use to eat and stuff. You can not believe me but once you go there you’ll be like oh things just got more expensive than I thought. That’s exactly what my friend said. Also as far as connections , it’s honestly what you make it. For undergrad connections is good for letter of recs for grad school. But even then it’s not 100% sure you’ll get into grad school. Connections are better for SCA students where you can find a job with your bachelors and get involved with the most talented people in the world. It all depends, I got friends with engineering bachelors that don’t have job and I got friends that do. It really depends on the person. You’d really have to stand out, but there are many other students that are standing out as well. Every school has connections . Honestly you should choose what school to go to based on the financial aid and your budget.

I’m just telling you guys what I know . I did research and spoke with a lot of people. You can take it or not take it, it’s up to you but you will truly see how it is once you go there. Good luck guys ps: if any animation majors or fine arts majors get in please post here :)

Assistant Director of USC admission says they don’t expect to send most letters out until a few days before Jun 1st. So I guess most of us are still gonna wait for a least a week.

@5nonnegotiables @dmdwelle
It does not typically take up to 6 years to graduate at a UC. I am a current student at ucsd (hoping to transfer out) and the only people I know that take 5 years to graduate are engineering majors and people who decided to change their major half-way or further into their third year. To my understanding, it is only difficult to get classes if they are physical science classes or engineering classes. Plus if you don’t get in to a class one quarter, you still have 2 more quarters to try to get in before the academic year ends. Also, the few econ majors I know, who also happen have either a business or accounting minor, are on track to graduate as a fourth year.

What I said what "more and more"that it is taking longer and is more common. Great for you and the people you know who are currently on track. Anyone can always do a google search and look up 4 yr graduation rates online. I am hoping to transfer and in comparing costs which was what we were talking about, I don’t think it’s accurate to compare 2yrs to 2 yrs, when the uc schools are at the mercy of the California budget cuts, which everyone knows,. That’s all.

The people I know are engineering majors; and I am from del mar and know lots of people who go there, and have also heard that from one of my neighbors, who is a ucsd professor. Great that people you know are on track at this point though.

@dmdwelle well I haven’t really gotten over that I didn’t get in as a senior in high school. As cliche as it sounds, USC is really my dream school. At first I applied to other schools because I absolutely hated it at ucsd, but now I honestly love it here. People say that it is socially dead, but in my experience the only people who say that are people who expect plans to be thrown at them. I would say that people who don’t like it here post more on forums than people who love it because the people who like it here don’t feel the need to tell others about their positive experiences - they are too busy living those experiences.
I honestly really like it here and it would not be the end of the world if I did not get in to USC. However, USC has an extremely good Communications program and Annenberg is awesome. USC has a better Comm department, is in LA, is higher ranked, and has a better alumni network than ucsd does. That’s ultimately what it comes down to for me.
