Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

Anyone apply for the usc Norman Topping scholarship?

@5nonnegotiables‌ I did

@heavenlyforest Just to give you some reassurance, I got into Marshall with a C in Calc. I was a spring admit but honestly being a spring admit is not bad… It was easy to meet people especially through the Facebook page that was made. Good luck and dont stress out too much!

For anyone else stressing out, try not to worry… you might not hear back until mid-July. I recognize a few usernames from the 2013 transfer thread! Good Luck and Fight On :)>-

@Ngarcia3‌ were you a junior transfer?

Yup.

@Ngarcia3‌ do you mind giving some other of your stats as a transfer?

This is from the 2012 Transfer Decisions thread… I was accepted for spring 2013 but I never updated this post after I got accepted. I believe my GPA ended up being a 3.5 because of that C in calc.

Stats:
College transferring from: Reedley College/ Fresno City College
Entering as: Junior
GPA: 3.5-3.7 depending on what transferred
Units completed: 63
Units in progress: 16
Pre-reqs completed: All; calculus/critical writing (in progress)

@Ngarcia3‌ Did you get a SGR, or were you accepted directly?

Also for business students, especially if you transferred from a cc, you have to retake all your business courses (economics, statistics, accounting, communications… etc)

@keepfighting1 I got an SGR and sent in my grades in May but I didnt get accepted until July. Some people in July got accepted for fall too.

@Ngarcia3‌ and was that C that you got in Calc part of your spring grades?

Yup! Talk about anxiety for 2 months lol :D/

@Ngarcia3‌ can you tell us a little bit about your experience as a transfer student at Marshall? Do you really love the school? Is it as awesome as we’re all dreaming about?! Lol

Yes, its just as awesome as you’re all dreaming about. There is so many opportunities to get involved in clubs and so many things happening on campus. One day you find out that the Beach Boys are performing and then a few weeks later you see a bunch of Secret Service and find out President Bush is on campus.

Its also nice to be around driven people who are looking to better themselves. I’m not going to lie, I’ve had to study really hard just to be an “average” Marshall student (I have about a 3.2 GPA right now). However, I would not change it for the world. I have truly grown in the last year and a half and have gained a lot more confidence.

@Ngarcia3‌ I heard that you could petition to get course equivalence for Accounting, am I correct? Also, did USC totally disregard the business classes that you took? As in, did they decide to not count the units that you took in accounting, econ, etc? Or did they accept the credits but you were not permitted equivalence, therefore having to take the classes again. I got into Marshall and was wondering about this because I do not want to go to USC with less units than I originally intend to transfer. Thanks!

You can petition but its extremely difficult. I know people who went to state schools and UCR and they still had to take accounting again. I know you cannot petition for econ. no matter what school you went to. If you transfer in with the max. amount of units (I think its 64) then you will most likely finish in 5 semesters. Thats if you take 16 units a semester and do not take summer school.

@Ngarcia3 Do you know anything about how they review summer courses? I’m taking 5 credits right now (Intro to Acct. which is the first in the accounting sequence, Business Communications, and another career readiness course). Have any of your courses (that weren’t 3 credit hours or more) transferred?

Does anyone know what the ‘special instructions’ are for mailing in your spring grades?

@hepburn95 have you heard anything since you submitted you scholarship application?i just submitted mine about two wks ago. Did you get any confirmation email that they received it? I didn’t… So I’m just curious.

@scahopeful‌ the instructions aren’t so special. Lol. You can either upload them through USConnect, mail them, or deliver them in person. They’ll accept official transcripts, unofficial transcripts, or just a grade card with your instructors’ signatures. The one things they stipulate is that you have to send all of the grades at once, not piecemeal.

They say to send in no later than June 30, but personally I’m going to send mine ASAP.
