Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

I just got rejected as well. I have done the appeal process for other schools before and if you don’t have significantly different grades or awards, its not worth the time. It is hard to get rejected once, but getting rejected twice hurts more, so only appeal if something dramatic changed. Don’t appeal if you believe they made the wrong choice, someone had the same stats and got in or you believe they didn’t look at your application well, because they have. This is a wholistic approach, every student is different.

Are they sending out decisions through Connect or through an email? I’m scared to check.

@MarshallBound I had the same exact reaction!! haha and I already started working on mine too LOL. I figured I wont be able to sleep now so I guess I’ll go for it. I recently looked back at my app before I got rejected and kind of said to myself “what was I thinking?!” So hopefully I can conjure up something better. Thanks for your advice though. Are you going to email or mail your appeal in?

Btw congrats to all that got in!! I’m both jealous and happy for all of you! :slight_smile: :(

@ilovestemcells‌ I’m going to e-mail them; however, I won’t be able to provide my Spring Grades until 3 weeks from now, so I don’t know how I’m going to prove that I am improving to them. I do still believe my essays were solid and had them proofread by a couple professors, so I’m probably going to shed light on something different in this appeal essay. To be honest, I don’t even know if my counselor will even read my essay as she hasn’t responded to two of my recent e-mails.

I really hope they don’t make those that got a SGR wait till mid-july to receive a rejection…

@MarshallBound Damn :confused: . You sound like you definitely deserve to go. You should appeal! If USC is your dream, then fight on.

Edit: On my intent to enroll page, I’m still listed as a freshman applicant. Does anyone know what I should do about this?

@MarshallBound you should definitely state in your letter how much your grades have improved. Your optimism is making me feel good haha so thanks for that and good luck on your letter!

rejected with 3.92 GPA,volunteer,college tutor,business club secretary,high school handbell player…etc…not have a lot of working experience though because it’s illegal for me to work outside of school. I seriously don’t know what USC is looking for Marshall candidates…I guess I am gonna be a Bruin.

Rejected. 3.93 gpa, 47 units completed. Same job for the past 7 years, two internships, and PTK. I had great essays and a letter of recommendation from my mentor at one of my internships. I have no idea what it is that usc wants, but apparently I have to sell my soul in order to get in.

Hey guys, I opened an appeal thread for transfers.
<a href=“USC Transfer 2014 Appeal - Transfer Students - College Confidential Forums”>USC Transfer 2014 Appeal - Transfer Students - College Confidential Forums;

@transferr2014 yes!

@MarshallUSC2014 I thoroughly believe that Marshall accepted more applicants than they intended which is why some high achievers got rejected. And if you didn’t list a second choice it was likely going to be a rejection. I don’t think it’s you, I think they just admitted a lot (there were a lot of Marshall Spring admits this year). I think you should reapply next year (if you can/want to) or try to appeal in case some students decide not to enroll and space becomes available.

Sorry to all of those that were rejected. You could always try to appeal (maybe after they see your spring grades they will have a different opinion!) And there’s always next year (people have gotten in after being rejected the previous year). But remember, whatever happens, happens for a reason. You will be happier in the long run whether you get in after an appeal to not. Even if it is your dream school, life isn’t all about USC and I’m sure you’ll do well wherever you end up. :)

If you applied to a talent based school and were rejected, it’s definitely not the end of the world. There could be so many reasons why you were rejected (not enough space, not academically qualified yet, etc.) ALWAYS remember it’s a crapshoot to apply to those anyway and I’d encourage you to reapply if you think it was for an academic reason.

On another note, has anyone submitted this to financial aid: Medical/Dental Expense Documentation - Parents

If so, what exactly did you send? I read the information, but I’m not exactly sure what they’re asking for.

@scahopeful‌

My restrictions actually changed Friday around 3:00 and usc connect changed back to the generic prompt: we have received your common app … So, my question is what exactly does an change in restrictions indicate? Does it indicate rejection because my stars report was not filled yesterday? Please be honest, I wouldn’t like to build up false hope and then be disappointed

Rejected as well, received my rej. letter via USC connect on 05/29. My oasis restrictions were last updated on 05/12. Thanks for this amusing thread, it definitely made the time go by faster. :-)

Rejected with a 3.5 from the University of Miami…■■■. I took 4 classes I didn’t need just to satisfy USC Gen-Ed’s. what am I even supposed to put in my appeal? That I got a 3.9 for spring?

@skhalafi @jazz49 @MarshallUSC2014 Did you guys get a SGR or did you get rejected outright?

@bobo79‌ just rejected. No SGR even though I was hoping for one

@gabbyrrr‌ I got a Spring Grade Request almost 2 months ago and they got back to me yesterday without even looking at my Spring Grade by giving me a conditional acceptance. Hopefully the same thing happens for you. I don’t know how they handle the SGRs, it seems a bit weird. But, I’m not complaining :P.

@almxy45 Were you SGRed? If so, it just means that they’re reviewing your grades and you still have at least a week until they make a decision.

If not, then based on trends it could mean acceptance or rejection. I think you should give it a day or 2 and then check to see if the STARS IAR is filled (it’s computer generated so business days doesn’t matter). If it doesn’t after Sunday/Monday then it may not be the decision you were hoping for.

@skhalafi Yes. That is a significant upward trend and you are full time w/4 classes (I’m assuming that is 12 units). Also, let them know if you are on the Dean’s List, if you are newly inducted into an honor society, and any other special awards/achievements.

@scahopeful‌ thanks I was actually just saying that my spring semester was based on the assumption that I’d get into USC since 12 out of the 16 credits that I took were classes I didn’t need for my school, but I took them to satisfy the USC GE’s. I have 67 credits completed and I was on dean an provosts lists for 3 semesters and had a 2160 on my SATs. Should I mention that I almost went to UCSB as a transfer stepping stone for USC, or does that not matter anymore? I feel like they give priority to in-state applicants. Where is the best place to send appeals? This rejection ruined my plans I appreciate any and all advice!

I applied to annenburg btw
