Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

Im not sure if Marshall hopefuls have watched this yet but here is a good video from USC Marshall concerning transfers. Its old, circa 2008 but still on their channel. <a href=“Tips on transferring to USC Marshall from another university - YouTube”>Tips on transferring to USC Marshall from another university - YouTube;

For the most part, I feel like that criteria applies to all USC transfer applicants. Perhaps though, USC Marshall admissions looks at more academics than a school like Cinematic Arts does. But still, doing well at the school from which you’re transferring is incredibly important no matter how good you are at storytelling (in the case of SCA). They still want to know if you will succeed at their school academically.

Since I applied last year as a sophomore, I’ll help out with the timeline. I received my SGR on May 8th. I submitted my grades on May 13. They rejected me on 6/26. I appealed on the day of, and they received my appeal on 6/27. They rejected my appeal on 7/15 at 9:46.

I applied to Marshall.
Hopefully none of you has to go through this and gets accepted straight up!

Going through last years thread, it seems that sophomore transfers are more likely to receive SGR’s.

@basketballer123‌ - So are you applying to Marshal again, but as a junior? And so, would this mean you plan on graduating a year late?

@xsayax - Sophomore transfers are more likely to receive SGR’s than who? I’d be surprised if you said freshmen. And if you said, juniors, because that would mean those guys are ready to graduate late!

@basketballer123‌ Hey, I’m really sorry to hear that. Are you applying again this year? Why do you think you were rejected despite getting a SGR, if you don’t mind me probing?

@xsayax Please clarify on whether you mean rising sophomores or present sophomore transfers.

@epicer - That’s a good question. I was under the impression that xsayax was talking about present sophomores and not rising sophomores.

@esai23 Yup! Yeah I’ll be transferring as a junior, and no I’ll still be on track to graduate I believe. I’m a sophomore at CC right now.

@epicer I think it was because I finished my math and english requirement during the summer. I was already planning on staying at CC for 2 years then transferring. But I thought I’d apply just for the hell of it my first year. So I wasn’t really as devastated haha

So am I right to assume that Oasis will only provide intel that we were admitted if it says some kind of information next to “Program Code” under the STARS Interactive Audit Report?

@epicer @esai23 Sorry for the confusion. I meant people who are trying to transfer in as sophomores at USC (rather than juniors) are more likely to receive SGR’s. I guess that’s what a rising sophomore is? The reasoning that last years transfer group came up with was that they have less coursework to base their decision off of than someone who has completed more units. Also if you are taking major coursework that is required to transfer this semester, you are most likely going to get an SGR.

People seemed to get SGR’s at the earliest Late April through Early-Mid May, and flat out acceptances mostly came mid May or around or on the June date. Now this is not 100% what is going to happen, just trends I noticed from last year.

@greengecko Last year when people admitted apparently it would show your major and some courses under STARS (like Writ 140), as well as an enrollment deposit box on USC connect, but I don’t know if this was an 100% guarantee, but it happened a lot of times that people would see that and then get in.

@basketballer123‌ Thanks for the reply. I guess they couldn’t feasibly consider your summer grades as part of the application. I wish you the best this time around.

I have a feeling USC waits until May to release decisions because they want to wait until after the UCs have released their decisions. With 75% of transfer being in CA, they can get a more accurate admission/yield rate by waiting until the CSU and UC diehards withdraw their USC application.

@basketballer123‌ - Okay, that makes more sense now! Since you’re a rising junior, you would be spending two years at USC anyway, and therefore, would be able to graduate on time. Now, in the event that you were a junior at present/rising senior, you would have to stay at USC for an extra year (because they only let you transfer 64 credits anyway)

@xsayax - Oh okay, that’s cool! And yes, that is what a rising sophomore means - Someone who is currently a freshman, but will be a sophomore in the coming semester.

@bomerr‌ … I don’t know if that’s true, simply because how compact the timeline for admissions is in general. But it would not surprise me. People should not expect to hear anything before May. OASIS does not mean anything. Do not get yourself amped.

@xsayax: Actually, they’re sending out SGRs even earlier now (I think). I got mine on April 9th.
@epicer: Haha, that’s actually pretty relieving. I really want to go to LA for college :P. I think I’ll be even better off because I believe I’m in top 1% of my college (despite grade deflation).
@EvanSamuel2404: I’m applying right now. Still waiting on a final decision, but the SGR made me really nervous, haha.

@Lasting I noticed you mentioned that you received a SGR earlier in the thread. Have you gotten it officially by mail yet?

@epicer: Not through physical mail. Only in an email
"Dear {{name}},

Are SGRs any indication that you’ll be accepted?

No. Some people get sgr’s get good grades n still got rejected last year
