Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

Are you guys done with finals? If you are, I envy you right now. :expressionless: :frowning:

@zettasyntax Even though it’s still very early, i feel like if we don’t hear back now, that’s kind of a bad sign (?) Idk, but i check my portal all the time and it still says the generic message when i first applied.

@invalid99 I’m done with finals and my grades come at next week but I think I’m only going to get a 3.6 which is so bad.

@Msmclagirl lol! What’s your major and are you a freshmen or a sophomore? I am hoping for a 3.5 and I’ll be content with it. My classes were from hell this semester.

@Smokedyou2 im an econ major and nope, i didn’t check my oasis at all. whats your major?

ACCEPTED

Major: Business Admin, Marshall Business School
Community College GPA: 3.88 (went down compared to previous year when I applied)
EC: student government, tutor on campus, president of 2 clubs, worship leader, etc

Conclusion: I think that USC really cares about your extra curricular activities. My GPA went down compared to when I applied as transfer last year (It’s a 4.0 at first)

I got my result on April 30th. I did not get any SGRs or even Winter Grade Requests, and I am really scared at one point. But not getting them does not necessarily mean rejection. I heard that you might not get any SGRs if you have completed all the courses required and have the grades on your transcripts

Applied last year, rejected, appealed, rejected, stayed in CC another year, applied, and finally accepted. Long journey but finally a Trojan!

@invalid99 I had two short-term classes end awhile back, but I still have to 3 finals the first week of June, so I’m not done quite yet.

@Msmclagirl I don’t think we should worry quite yet! I got my SGR last year incredibly late (May 25th, I think?). Although it does seem like rejections come out last. Maybe if one doesn’t hear anything by like May 29th, then maybe it’s time to worry? :frowning:

@zettasyntax : Did rahforhee disclose how much her family’s income is? And I just used the calculator…no way I am spending $30k when I am going to my current college for free.

@invalid99 My major is Global Studies which I guess is an easy major so hopefully it’s not competitive and I’m a freshman at the moment transferring to be a sophomore. What about you? Hopefully USC doesn’t just look only at grades…

Congratulations. I feel they also probably like the commitment and dedication people show who reapply even after getting denied previously.

@mp14238 Congrats! I hope I have the same luck as you :stuck_out_tongue: I also applied last year and was rejected, appealed, etc. My GPA also dropped and I have a W now, so my stats have gotten worse since last year. I do wonder how much they care about EC’s. I barely had any. I only volunteer at LAC+USC Medical Center. I spend a lot of time there, but other than that, I had nothing to put for last year. Anyway, congrats again

@applenana No, that’s probably a bit too personal to disclose, but he just said that he isn’t coming from an extremely wealthy background. Heck, he barely had to pay anything apparently, so don’t take what it says 100%. No matter what income I put (I put essentially nothing), 10K per year was the lowest I could manage to get it to say (I was curious) and rah’s out of pocket expenses were lower than that. It’s best to see what they actually offer you

Aw I really do hope you will get in too! I hope they value your commitments. As of grades, I dont think they care about it as much as the UCs, because USC is a more holistic school. I heard they dont like 4.0s even @zettasyntax

@mp14238 I know, I’m trying to keep the hope alive :stuck_out_tongue: I had a 4.0 as well last year when I applied and was rejected, so I know that just having a 4.0 doesn’t mean instant acceptance. Still, it seems like a ton of people with 4.0s are getting accepted this year, so that just makes me a little nervous now that I’ve slipped up a bit (I never wanted a W) :-\

I did add an extra EC. I started to bug the employees at the hospital and tell them I fix computers, so I talked about that as a little side business even though it’s not very impressive :stuck_out_tongue:

@zettasyntax Keep all the positivity alive! Let’s hope for the best! I am sure any improvements count! I am sure a single W will not make much difference. A W is better than an F, it also shows that you are a smart students who knows when to stop when you think you might not pass  that’s what my teacher told me

I had two Ws and got accepted. One was for a major course. Transfer gpa was 3.7. But I also had excellent ec’s in my opinion. Point is, be confident in your application. W won’t make or break you.

@Msmclagirl I am an Electrical Engineering major transferring in as a junior. Nothing is an easy major, just some prerequisites for some are stupid ridiculous. I hope they do consider everything else other than grades too. Don’t worry though, I think you’ll be OK.

@zettasyntax I wish you luck on your finals bro. Kick some ass! Last semester I took 23 credits, I made it halfway through the semester before busting. I was going to get a B in my linear algebra class. I was taking Calc III, Physics II, CMPEN, a History class, a high level business course (SCM) and I also had EC activities. I dropped linear algebra 3 weeks before the end of the semester. I think you’ll be ok bro.

Anyone know whether there is a FB group for Fall 2015 transfers? Also, anyone know the best dorms for transfers?
