Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

You guys I’m getting very anxious

@poisonx did that that also update your you.usc.edu in the check application status part? like where it says “we have requested your spring grades …”

@jucery13 yeah, now its back to “we received your common app and supplements”

Everyone needs to relax… its going to be ok! Besides, USC is only really prestigious if you are going to live in socal… As far as world ranked universities 5 UCs out perform USC according to every world university ranking entity including usnews. Its the school to go to in socal but you guys will be just as happy at a UC (and save a ton of money). Unless your like me who has the added pressure of an entire family that are USC alumni, in which case I feel bad for you right now :P.

@poisonx Just called literally took like 1 min, no wait what so ever. It was so fast compared to when i called back in February lol. Although, my application status still says the spring grade thing… I guess that takes a while to update.

Crap I should’ve asked them when i could expect a decision I forgot to

So will they email the decision or send it by mail?

hey guys when were your restrictions on from oasis?

@lordfx USC is prestigious everywhere and is ranked above all UC’s besides LA and Berk so not sure what you’re talking about? I live in NorCal Bay Area and it’s considered amazing here and my sister goes to Vandy in Tennessee and in the east coast and it’s considered a damn good school everywhere!

My admissions counselor just replied saying that she’ll add new info about my extracurricular s today… I was SGRED may 13th. I think it’s highly unlikely that I’ll know my final decisions by June 1st

@lordfx I’m not sure where you’re getting your information but you might wana get it elsewhere, perhaps somewhere more credible. USC is prestigious everywhere and cultivate far more successful graduates than UC’s do (excluding Berkeley and la). Not to discredit UC’s in any way, but to say USC is only prestigious in Southern California and most of the UC’s are better is quite foolish.

@HappyLifeMachine I think by this Friday. But maybe Sunday so the portal could update, he wasn’t specific but he did say by the end of this week, you will know your decision on the portal

Actually no it is not… http://www.usnews.com/education/best-global-universities/rankings and I have lived abroad for 3+ years and I can tell you from direct first hand experience that almost all people in the foriegn countries I lived in know the University of California (because of the shear amount of research produced) not to many people have heard of the University of Southern California -comparativly.

also feel free to check others like the princeton review… or even better maybe from a british ranking program

USC is ranked 50 worldwide… well behind 5 other UCs. But again it really shouldn’t worry you to much.

From a purely academic stand point USC is known mostly for… well … football

@smileyface31 I emailed my counselor about when I would hear back, because I got SGR’s and sent the grades, and he said in about a week or so. So maybe we will hear back this week and next week at the latest? :-?
If you guys sent grades in regarding a SGR and it says they’re still missing, just send an email or call your counselor. It really does calm you down  Stay positive guys the wait is almost over!

@lordfx The real question is why would I care about worldwide rankings. Especially when I’m going into a field that is US dominated and USC is one of the better ranked Universities nationally in my field? USC has a better national reputation than all but 2 of the UCs. What’s your point? Even if global reputations are more important than I think they are, how does it help people to know that the college they so desperately want to get into is worse than they originally thought? Does it comfort people to know they’ve been denied by a “non prestigious” college?

@lordfx lol well I’m sure a lot of us on here are so anxious to find out about USC because of our academic aspirations and the resources we’d be in contact with if we were to attend. Our stress isn’t just from a want to go to a highly ranked school, and I’m not sure why you’re so concerned with putting UCs over USC. Those stats do nothing to distinguish each of our different fields of study, nor do they highlight the unique characteristics of each school which may influence our overall ‘fit’. For example, you can’t just tell an Annenberg applicant to chill out if they don’t get in and that they can just go to UCI instead for literary journalism. I’m also sure that some applicants may be stressed from having to make decisions about their next fall semester from conflicting financial/SIR deadlines.

On US news ranking (a ranking that is highly referenced to), USC is ranked in the top 25… whomever is saying they are ranked in the 50’s is wrong sadly. They have an excellent academic program and no it’s not all about football. It’s like saying Penn State is all about football… well they are not.

@invalid99 He’s using the global rankings, which I’m pretty sure use different criteria than the national ones.
