@jch718 it is definitely not likely, but it has happened. Check out the previous years threads.
Also do any of you guys know if financial aid updates at 12am like admission decisions.

@jucery13 thanks for the reply! I really really hope that it dosent happen haha. Also I’m curious about the spring admit likelihood. Does that have to do with your major? Or is it other factors?
@jch718 While there is no way to no for sure, I honestly do thing it has to do with your major. What did you apply for?
Mustang012 <-- this question is important to me. So like a counselor or anyone? Just someone in some type of position to know my financial issues?
Jucery13 So just any number to a financial aid counselor? That does seem easy… but you know… I have recognized a pattern with USC. After making the big decision of accepting you etc… they deffer a lot of relevant information to other sources…
jch718 Yes from my experience you can get an SGR and provide them with straight As and the can deny you… I have been telling everyone here since the first week of this thread… they are obligated to send you an SGR… even if they think you will fail.
just use “the most” common sense… its usually the answer
@lordfx almost didn’t see your post! Remember to put the @followed by the username so the person you are trying to speak to gets the update.
I guess ill tell what they said in the phone calls, I called to times.
The first guy stated that by just listing the financial aid office it would be fine, and I could go ahead and list a person if I wanted to.
The 2nd guy stated that I did need a financial aid counselor that I know, and I was like does it matter who, and he was like any counselor you know, and I was like I really don’t know any financial aid counselor, I just go to the little window and ask for help lol. He told me to just go to the window ask for a any financial aid counselors name and put it in their.
I took the 2nd route, I just found a financial aid counselor at my school and listed them, I hope this doesn’t cause any issues. Under the additional text, I specifically stated what admissions told me when I called.
@jucery13 I applied for PPL (Dornsife, 1st choice) and Law, history, and culture (Dornsife, 2nd choice).
@lordfx eh, “obligated” dosent seem like the correct term to use. Logically, if they knew that there was nothing you could do to get in (achieving a 4.0 in spring) it seems as if you’d just get a straight rejection (which they gave to many people on this thread). Why would they even bother with the SGR? So while I appreciate your reply, I don’t think Id be so quick to say that they’re “obligated” as that implies they have no choice but to do so, when they do have the option to send a rejection if there’s no hope
@jch718 no seriously… if it was not for the sgrs they would never be able to come close to making decisions any time this year… Almost everyone that applies gets an SGR … they also are serious about seeing the complete picture… Unless you are applying with a 2.0… It all follows a line of logic that seems very consistent to me… I have applied three times… I have gotten accepted three times but was not able to attend until now (which is freakin awesome) and I will tell you that even if you report that you are taking one online course in under water basket weaving they will request an SGR.
Does anyone know about the USC facebook page for admits? Any info would be helpful
@lordfx well congrats on finally being able to attend! That’s really awesome for you after not having the ability to previously do so.
I do understand what it is you’re saying, but do you see my confusion? Why on earth would they ask for spring grades if they knew that no matter how awesome you did, you couldn’t get in? With over 65,000 apps hitting their desks over the course of the year with freshman, grads, and us transfers, that just does not make sense. There seems to be some sort of trend (this year at least) with a positive growth or maintenance of gpa for spring leading to an acceptance (assuming you weren’t taking total BS classes).
Personally, I had a really rough start to my college career (1.97 first semester gpa). Since that time in over 50 units I’ve received a 3.93. So that awful semester still impacts my gpa very negatively (cumulative 3.69). So I’m just concerned that I could be denied after taking a rigorous semester and receiving a 4.0 in 19 units. That would be total devastation for me. All of these classes were not BS either, all five were the USC GE’ s
I didn’t hear anything back from USC at all (No SGR, acceptance, rejection, updated in portal or Oasis) so yesterday I called admissions, the girl said she’d talk to a counselor about it and follow up, she did and said the counselor had everything required and would make a decision in the next few days. Later yesterday I saw the ability to benefit pop up in my financial aid (so i assumed acceptance) but I didn’t get a decision yet, we filled out all the additional required financial aid documents and now it gives me the 3-5 days for awards, however I don’t see the ability to benefit option under documents/items anymore. Restrictions updated yesterday saying there was required advisement from Biological Sciences (major I applied to), Stars report hasn’t been updated yet, it’s been almost 24 hours since my restrictions updated.
Today I check my portal and it says I was SGR’ed, I opened the document and it was dated May 2 2014, I applied last year, and the letter even had my old address on it!!! I haven’t gotten anything in the mail yet, but I hope I can even get something because it seems like they can’t even get my new address. I used my new address in the common app when I applied this year. So wtf did I get accepted or SGR’ed???
@huenime134 sounds like you need to make a trip to USC and ask these questions in person. Way too complicated of a scenario to handle over the phone/email
@jch718 Thanks! yeah the first time I chose to go abroad for a few years and the second I could not afford it. I am in a better situation now. you are absolutely right and I agree with you and as an aside I highly doubt that your rough start is going to impact your chances as much as you think. USC actually (from my experience) prefers to see a positive trend because it shows that you can take a beating and not give up like many many people do. They requested an SGR for me before but did not this time (because I am not taking any classes). You are right that they wont bother with an sgr if there is no way you are getting in.
@huenime134 They screwed up all my data too. The system seems to not be designed to handle multiple applications well. Since I applied before and was accepted I REALLY had a hard time getting things straightened out. So far the consensus stands that if you get a 3-5 day financial aid notice on you.usc.edu you are in. Mine changed two days before I got my acceptance packet in the mail.
USC seems to work fast if you call/complain a little
I called on June 3rd, my restrictions updated June 4th, stars June 5th, and letter in the mail on June 6th (that was dated June 5th). I honestly do find it odd that they admitted me for sociology instead of anthro. I had 5 anthro courses compared to just 1 for sociology. I’m just happy they accepted me for something though
And I figure I could still switch over to linguistics. That major seems really unpopular

@zettasyntax congrats! Knew you would get in. Good luck and Fight On!
@zettasyntax CONGRATS. I haven’t been to this thread in a long time, but it’s awesome to see you got accepted. Why did they accept you after June 1? Did you appeal?
How are you guys going about housing, I’m stressed af bc I just applied for on campus housing and I don’t know what I’ll do if I don’t get on campus
@HappyLifeMachine I honestly think they forgot about me or something since I didn’t even get an SGR
The only thing I’m bummed about is that I got in for spring. I thought that only happened with SGR peeps. The letter said it was frowned upon to ask about switching into fall, but that didn’t really stop me from asking. I hope I can do something about that since I’m already old and don’t want to delay my being a Trojan any further. I read that it’s rare to pull such a thing off though.
Another weekend and still waiting.
@HappyLifeMachine, what really? the letter stated it was frowned upon??LOL I asked a bunch? What exactly did it say.
