I sent in my spring grades a month ago and I still have not heard back yet.
@jucery13 Did you mean about switching into fall? I think what I read in the letter is that it said not to even ask as all spring admits will be considered for the fall anyway (if space permits) and to not mention anything about an improvement in grades, new internships, etc. as it basically won’t make a difference to them. I hope my counselor is nice about if/when he responds haha
@Hurricane9999 Have you contacted them recently? I oddly enough think that bugging them just a little might help. Just to remind them.
@zettasyntax Was this on your acceptance letter? Mine doesn’t even say anything about that.
@zettasyntax here is what my acceptance said:
Congratulations! You are among a very select group of students who have been admitted to USC for the spring semester of 2016. I know that when you applied, you intended to begin your studies here this fall, so please read on and let me explain this special
opportunity.
We want you at USC. After an extensive review of your application, we believe your academic abilities and personal characteristics make you an excellent fit for USC. The problem is that we simply do not have enough room to accommodate all the students we wish to admit. Rather than turn you away, we want you to enroll in January and take the place
of a USC student who will be graduating from the university this December.
It might seem odd to begin at USC in January, but spring admission to USC has been a popular and successful program for more than fifteen years. Last year, more than 400 students accepted spring admission and are now fully engaged members of our student body whom we expect will graduate with their class.
The enclosed materials should answer your questions about spring admission. You will read about topics such as making plans for the fall, our winter orientation program, and
housing application procedures. If you have applied for financial aid, you will receive additional information shortly.
You and your family should be proud of your admission to USC. We look forward to welcoming you as one of the newest members of the Trojan Family.
@jucery13 Not in the letter. It was just some additional information and it just sounds to me that they don’t really like people to ask about it.
“All students who accept the spring offer will be considered for any [fall] openings. These decisions will be based on specific enrollment needs of the university, not on rankings, level of interest, or waitlist order. Please do not send supplementary information or petition other than submitting your intent to enroll.”
I actually asked if there was some kind of waitlist, so yikes! It was in one of the little booklets they sent along with the letter. So my hopes aren’t too high about being able to switch.
@zettasyntax what did they tell you when you asked?
@jucery13 No response yet. I just asked on Friday. Did you hear anything back about it?
@zettasyntax I emailed them asking if they received my spring grades and they received them. I wonder what is taking so long.
Does anyone know anything about the appeal process? How it works, the success rate, etc.? I am a transfer student, just got my rejection letter.
Can confirm that calling helps haha. I called on June 3rd and they said no decision was made, got my acceptance letter yesterday and it was dated June 4th.
@zettasyntax I first emailed my counselor asking about it, it was a straight up no we don’t do that. Then I showed what it said online when you are about to commit to enroll. I think it states that all spring admits who commit are considered for fall, and she said that anything is possible, but I shouldn’t get my hopes up.
My counselor is super nice though, and her responses are quick and complex. She literally responded to an email in like 1 hour which was a complete shocker to me.
@BaberhamLincoln Aww, sorry to hear that you didn’t get in. Well, the appeal process isn’t really set in stone. I believe you can either email a letter to your admissions counselor or send it through the mail. I appealed last year and the success rate didn’t seem very high. I recall only 1 student making it in on appeal out of maybe 25 or so from this forum that I knew were trying. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a shot though! You never know. I didn’t have luck last year with my appeal though.
@jucery13 Yikes, I’m not expecting the hear good things from my counselor either then. He’s pretty swift with getting back to me and generally nice, but he seems a little strict. He never answers me on Fridays, but otherwise he responds fast. I think his record was replying in 5 minutes
My only either idea was trying to switch into my dream major (linguistics) now to see if maybe that will give me any better chances. I recall reading a usc linguistics blog and it doesn’t seem like the most popular of majors (I want to say that I saw that the blog mentioned only 20-40 linguistics undergrad graduates, so that really made me think my major isn’t too crowded at USC). I don’t even know if you can switch majors prior to enrollment though.
@zettasyntax Do you think wr have better chances to enroll in fall the sooner we commit for spring ?
Got my golden taco this morning!!! Got into Marshall for Spring I am bummed but at least I didn’t get rejected. Does anyone know if any SGR applicant has successfully switched to fall?
@sunita18 So any changes in the portal? or Oasis before getting the acceptance? Congratulations
Nope no portal changes and no access to OASIS! But I did annoy the admission office to let me know my decision and a few days ago the lady accidentally did say I was a spring admit hahaha
@jucery13 I would think, but the whole talk about there not being a wait list makes me wonder if it’s a random process when it comes to moving people up to fall.
@sunita18 I didn’t even have an SGR and I got in for spring. It makes me wonder if USC admitted too many students for fall or something. I don’t remember anyone from last year mentioning being moved up, so it seems really hard =\ I want to see if switching majors could improve my chances, but I’m doubting that will help much.
Does anyone know if we can still rush to be in a sorority if we are a spring admit?
@zettasyntax you should definetly call!
