@soapymango I applied for screenwriting with a double major in creative writing. I think u can
@itsdomoo which school did you apply to?
I applied to the cinematic art school for screenwriting. @soapymango I know they have a minor in screenwriting that u do not have to apply for to do
I applied to Dornsife as a sociology major. Does choice of major/ whether or not it’s impacted affect chance of acceptance?
According to the facebook page, they’ll be mailing decisions on the 24th
@crhomberg21 Actually, USC has officially said that: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/
What are impacted majors?
@HopefullSurfer I went for Explore and got to stay on campus for a night and I promise you will fit right in! There are different types of people all over campus and you should have no problem at all. In terms of the spread out campus it’s really not too bad. Most things are centered around a central area so it doesn’t seem as large in retrospect. If by granola you mean super outdoorsy I wouldn’t say it seemed that way to me. There are tons of different kinds of people on campus. And lastly don’t worry about making friends! Everyone is super nice and you’ll meet tons of people at orientation! And of course I’ll happily be your friend! I’ve wanted to learn how to surf for years!
@jmek15 past threads received scholarship notification on this coming Saturday through the portal in the past years. If this is true this year then we should be notified of our scholarship decision by this Saturday!
I took a ‘reaction’ video of D1 last year, but it wasn’t that great. I did get a pretty good shot of the postman pulling a big yellow packet out of his bag and putting it in the mailbox! Since our mailbox is on the front porch and everyone comes in through the garage, I texted D2 and said for them to come through the front door that day. Unfortunately, D2 came walking up first and said ‘hey, there’s something in the mailbox’. The reaction was something along the lines of ‘oh, I got something from USC’… I am out of town next week for D2’s results, so if its good news, hopefully she will send me a snapchat or something. Good luck to everyone! - and for the internationals - I think you get a DHL shipment notice email so you actually know sooner than everyone else? I can’t remember exactly, though.
@apples90049 impacted majors basically mean that there are more applicants than spots available, so the spots are more competitive…
@trackgirl916 I applied for sociology too, I think that if a major is impacted it is harder to get in, although USC asks for a second major so you will be considered for that too. Is sociology at USC considered an impacted major?
@mellyjune no I don’t think it’s impacted
@jmek15 @arob1129 @LayraSparks Did any of you receive postcards following your interviews? If so, when did you get them, who did they come from, and what did they say?
D received a postcard on Saturday. It was general (nice to meet you, etc.) and signed by admissions representatives from her major.
Explore was a great experience, and reinforced D’s feeling that USC is the right place for her. We are just holding our breath and using every bit of positive energy we have for a positive scholarship decision. Can anyone relate to that?
Best of luck to all who who really want to be part of the Trojan family!
I realize this is not necessarily the thread to ask this question, but how cut throat is the sorority thing at USC?
I personally didn’t get a DHL notice email, but maybe some people do…I just had to have it delivered twice because I wasn’t there to sign the papers the first time. That said, INTERNATIONALS, you don’t just get them delivered in your mailbox, somebody has to be there and sign the receipt.
@frozens Yes, there is an unofficial Facebook group!
@Choirmom09 I didn’t get one personally, but I’m international and it would take a couple of weeks to arrive if it’s coming through regular mail. Also, I was only interviewed by one person instead of the usual three…
From what I’ve seen in the Facebook group, it’s just a general thank you card, signed by the interviewer(s) and members of the admission committee. They arrived this week/last week.
My D got postcard after Expore from Dorsife but twin son did not get one from Veterbi. anyone else? Also, how are we informed about Trustee Scholarship decisions…YOUSC, mail or email?
And when??? Very nervous with two kids up for scholarships and both hoping to attend USC, but not affordable without scholarships.
@learn2019 Well, that’s odd. My D is Dornsife, interviewed March 3, and hasn’t received a postcard. I’m hoping that it’s not indicative of disappointing news. The waiting is just unbelievably painful! Did both your D and S interview for Trustee? Perhaps that’s the difference if S didn’t?
Yeah, they both did on Feb. 27th. You’tr right, the waiting is painful! I told my kids this has been about nine months since they sent in applications last August… as long as waiting for them to be born! It is just too long. There is so much at stake. I’m hoping they are out thihs weekend at the latest, but who knows.
