Senior Yr Courseload: AP Physics C, AP Calc AB, AP Lit, AP Gov, Guitar Ensemble, Music Theory

Number of Apps from Your School: A lot.

ECs listed on app: A whole bunch of stuff. Most notable would be Katrina aid, various volunteering, and VP of NEHS.

Awards: 3rd place on AMC12 Junior year(AIME qualified), Magna Cum Laude on 2 National Latin Exams, Outstanding student awards from various teachers, Community serivce award from NHS, winning Mr Centreville.

Essays (subject and responses): Favorite word was marshmellow. Piece of art was In A Gadda Da Vidda (compared it to The Telltale Heart and other things). Personal essay was about my love of creating music.

Teacher Recs: Two great ones. I started an effort to keep my physics teacher from returning to Iraq which she may or may not have written about. My World History 2 teacher also liked me a lot.

Counselor Rec: I believe it was good. He wrote about me winning Mr. Centreville among other things.

Waitlisted and OSS applicant

overall, i was surprised because UVA was my super duper reach and i thought that i was going to get rejected for sure

what’s the acceptance rate for out of state applicants?

"Some quick numbers (more to come)
18.053 applications (16,298 last year)
6,073 offers of admission (6,019 last year)

7,073 applicants from Virginia (6,530 last year)
10,928 applicants from out of state (9,768 last year)"

Last year the acceptance rate was approx. 36.9%
This year it’s approx. 33.6%

These are prelim. figures, there’s a 10.8% increase in applications from last year from just this data. idk if the figures include ED or if the waitlist was accounted for.

congrats to those who made it. but if you didn’t, it’s okay coz it seems to get harder to get in since last year.

jeez, i dont wanna know how this process is gonna be like for our kids

I doubt it. The University has had about the same acceptance rate for the past 15-20 years, and they’re not doing much to drum up new apps or attract more top applicants.

Recommendations: My guidance counselor recommendation was probably generic. My teacher rec was probably good… he likes me. I never got to read either.
Essays: I thought they were rushed. They were all fairly creative though, I thought.
