Official UVA Transfer Thread - Fall 2012

Does every applicant have those stats!?! LOL.

I feel like mine are pretty good, but when I see all these other stats I feel that everyone applying has great stats.

@Chopstick,
I feel ya with the update post. I want to know whats going on in that admissions office!!

I think every one has their own strengths and weaknesses, and I also don’t think anyone is a shoo-in, per se. I like my numbers on paper, but there are things that I feel I don’t have that worry me. Also: I have never liked the idea of being judged off pieces of paper! Good luck to all. Peace.

SO, transformer posted an update this morning!! She replied to some questions in the previous post in addition. She answered a question about the symbols and said that a check means that at some point in the cycle a decision has been made… but its most likely not the final decision. (how much do you all think the final decision changes things?) So it does mean there has been a decision made on your application!! Interesting huh?

So what do you all think about receiving a decision earlier or later… is it positive or negative?

@JohnnyBazooka I’m at a public university in another state, not a CC in VA.

The transfermer answered in the transfer blog:

"Sis symbols,
A check means at some point in the cycle a decision has been made, but it is most likely not the final decision. There are changes that can occur leading into May 1. Again, a strange and unfortunate function of peoplesoft. "

So a “check” really means something. I wonder if receiving a check very early is a good sign or not.

I think some of you may have seen this/know about this already but here’s the numbers for previous years in terms of transfers and which colleges they were accepted into. If you go to Historical Data they also separate it by gender and other categories.

[UVa - Transfer Admission](http://www.web.virginia.edu/iaas/data_catalog/institutional/data_digest/adm_transfer.htm)

Transfermer said they received ~2350 transfer applications this year which is less than last year! Not sure if that’s good or not though…

Haha those checks and circles…still think what I thought about them before.

I ran the numbers … somewhat… based on previous admission stats. There were 2350 total applicants, with about 250 for engineering, 243 for McIntyre, 60 for architecture, and 160 for nursing. That brings the total for CAS to 1697, estimated. If you factor an overall admissions rate of 40% for transfers to CAS, approximately 645 people will be admitted for CAS. If anyone has more accurate stats, such as percent admission based on CAS only and not the combined rate, you could get more accurate numbers.

LOL Oh wow. I’ll just put my calculator away then… Thanks!

I didn’t factor in the other couple of programs outside of CAS in addition to nursing, egineering, McInyre and architecture because I don’t have numbers for those programs. My numbers are a rough estimate, but it gives you an idea of the breakdown.

Haha chopstick. Im still with you on that one. I think it still supports the theory we have.

Still no check!!! I must be quite the controversy.

@Jeremystory, that makes it harder. However, public universities typically prefer a certain number of international’s because, bluntly, they are profitable. UVA’s cost for educating you is lower than what they charge, ergo there is an economic incentive for your acceptance in addition to your credentials, although I am sure that varies relative to other factors like state aid, donations, etc. for a particular year. I think you and Novastudent both got in. We should turn this into a betting game.

Do you think they make a decision basically the first time they read everyones application? It would seem like everyone would have a tentative decision now. Why would they make a decision on one application but not other?

@Mendelismyhero
I think at least a few people have to read one app to make the process impartial. Unfortunately, it appears mine is at the bottom of the pile.

I don’t think they make a decision after the first read. Maybe they put everyone in either a Yes No or Maybe pile and then once they’ve gone through everyone once they go through them again just to be sure… and then if there aren’t enough in the Yes pile to fit their 40% acceptance, they go to the Maybe pile. That is a 100% guess though hahah it doesn’t mean your app is at the bottom!!

I just got a “UVa Financial Aid Application” on my To-Do list T____________T ONE MORE WEEK MAX. Still crossing my fingers for 4 more days though.

Anyone care to chance me for fun ?:P

GPA 3.8 w 60 credits-flagship OUT OF STATE , asian

hs gpa 1.7, sat 1900
lot of ECS, fabulous recommendations from UVA alums who have donated, overall great app

already got into UNC so im set anyways :D

@JohnnyBazooka

I actually still have a green circle too. I wouldn’t be surprised if that means they’re having a hard time deciding on what to do with me. My stats are not impressive but my artistic/creative abilities are so I think I have them conflicted. I’m applying to the school of architecture and I really hope they decide to take a chance on me. It’s truly my passion and they don’t have a program at the school I’m currently in.

Good luck to everyone!

Quick run through of my stats:

High School UW GPA ~3.24, W GPA ~3.79
President of FBLA
SAT Total 2070 (730 Writing [I don’t think VT takes this into account], 690 Math, 650 Reading)

College GPA first semester 3.70
Vice President of my freshman class
Work for the school’s sound crew

I’ve had the green check for as long as I can remember (well over a month, at the least)… I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad sign =/

@x0chopstix0x

Thanks for that link. It’s comforting to know that CAS accepted 38% last year.

Apparently Cont. and Prof. Studies accepts 99% of transfers, wow. It’s for working “adults” who want to complete a bachelors part time during the evening.

does a 570 for Reading and 740 for math look bad for SAT scores for SEAS?
I’m scared!!!
/ a 27 on the ACT for English and 35 for math…

I think that reading score is a little low but SATs shouldn’t be that important if you have a good College GPA and other ECs!
Did anyone else just get a lot of Financial Aid steps on their To-Do List?? I got like about 5 things I need to do now and they’re due June 1st…To be specific their names are

 1. Parent Tax Return Transcript
 2. Student 1040
 3. Student W2
 4. Verify Household Size

^ Nope, but I submitted the tax returns & verification preemptively a few weeks ago. AFAIK, financial aid and admissions process your applications independently of the other.
