Cant see my Major (???)
Applied for CS
oos- international
Mine doesn’t say anything
Not even pre engineering
@fragbot, that is correct. Last year, with around 43,500 applicants, the admit rates were:
62.7 instate;
45.3 overall; and
38.8 nonresident (OOS and international).
Apparently, the UW received “over 44,000” applications this year, so I would expect the admit rates to stay about the same.
When are you allowed to ask them what your spot on the waitlist is?
Accepted

@Jhippitty they don’t do rankings for waitlist.
If you did not get direct acceptance to competitive majors like Business or CS, you really have to consider options where you did. CS is very hard to get into as is business, you may spend years there and come out with a major you don’t want. You need a stellar gpa in your first two years to get into CS and bus classes are hard to get. Go in with open eyes and ask students and parents that are current students there. Do you want to be stressing about getting into a major for 2 years (which it often takes). Don’t let people on sites like this tell you it is all good (or bad) - do some research and go in knowing the challenges - that you might not get into your major at all or take 5 years to graduate, or it could be fine.
In any state public school, getting in as an OOS is harder than being an instate resident. Public schools are made to support students in-state.
Somehow, I got in.
Undeclared Major
UW GPA: 3.72(But 10-11 would be 3.84)
W GPA: 3.93(10-11 would be 4.06) Our school does not weigh Honors Classes
2AP class, and 3Honors class. Now taking 4AP classes
ACT 30
New SAT 1410
SAT MATH 2 800
Horrible ECs: A few sport for one or two years, and three club memebers, not as a staff on board
Horrible Essays: I thought UW deadline was 11/30, but my friend told me it is 11/1 so I needed to finish all my essay, short responses, and application in 2 days, lol.
OOS (California)
For my D, on the admissions portal it says “We are pleased to offer you admission to the University of Washington for autumn quarter 2017”. There is no info on whether it is for her first choice CS or her second choice or undeclared.
Any thoughts anyone?
OOS.

Getting in as a nonresident is harder (admit rate and academic stats) at some public universities, such as the UW, which receives three times the number of nonresident applications as resident applications. In contrast, it has been easier to gain acceptance to UCs from OOS, as the vast majority of applicants are CA residents.
The UW and the department websites fully explain the admission process for the handful of majors that have a freshman direct admission pathway (last time I checked, business administration, music and other audition based majors, biochemistry and some of the engineering majors) and for all of the other majors that do not (around 180 in all). Any student with the capacity to be admitted to the school should be able to do the research and come to a sound self-assessment, as you advise.
“This is a list of UW-Seattle undergraduate majors. Options and concentrations are listed when available. Each major links to the General Catalog, where you can learn more about its admission and graduation requirements.”
Here is some general guidance regarding majors:
http://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/academic-planning/majors-and-minors/overview/
Regarding the engineering majors, I do not know how many applicants were offered a direct admission to an engineering major last year, but according to the ASEE Online Profile, around 15.1% of freshmen in the College of Engineering were enrolled in a major (the others were enrolled with pre-engineering status). Admission to specific engineering majors is described at:
http://www.engr.washington.edu/current/admissions/admitstats
Regarding computer science and engineering, a recent article in the Seattle Times about Paul Allen’s $40 million gift to the establish the new Allen School for Computer Science & Engineering reported:
"Students are usually admitted at the end of their freshman year or the start of their sophomore year. But the school also admits some students directly, at the same time they are admitted to the university as freshmen. This year, direct admission will be offered to 150 students. All but five of them are Washington residents. [UW CSE website states, “These admits have an average unweighted gpa of 3.97 and are mostly Washington state residents. Average test scores are: ACT 34, SAT math 764, SAT verbal 758.”]
"Although computer science and engineering is a tough program to get into, the picture is getting better. In 2016, 43 percent of bachelor’s applicants were admitted to the program. In previous years, the admission rate was lower.
“[The CSE Department] is now enrolling about 370 new undergraduate students each year, double the number it was able to accommodate in 2012… This year, it is asking for $6 million from the Legislature to increase the number of students it graduates by 120 degrees per year. Most of that increase would be in bachelors degrees, Lazowska said.”
Is there some sort of group for accepted students?
Did people who get rejected from UW Seattle get rejected from Bothell / Tacoma as well?
Accepted! Had to find out by looking at unofficial transcript, and then this morning, an email came telling me, "now that you’re accepted, here’s a student group you can join. " Weird.
SAT 1410
GPA UW 3.7
Running Start student graduating with an A.S. in engineering track 2
Lots of community service - 200+ hours cooking for homeless
Not a lot of extra curriculars otherwise
In state
Really strong essays, I think.
Got a question, though. Under the college/major heading on the unofficial transcript, it says College of Engineering, pre-engineering major. Does that mean I got Direct Admission?
I got rejected with a 3.65 and a 1200 SAT.
I’m going to do the appeal thing bc it doesn’t hurt to try, but I’m not keeping my hopes up.
I got into UW Tacoma and I’m considering applying to Bothell. I honestly don’t know. I just want something UW.
do waitlisted applicants have to write an additional essay or anything? Or do we just submit our updated grades?
@alfolywa what major did you apply to?

Completed 15 credits through UW in the high school, and have taken 2 APs.
This year, first semester, I had all As and a B+, and I have all As so far this semester.
How good are my chances of getting in through the waitlist?? Should I apply to UW bothell? I got into Chapman with a Dean’s Scholarship. I’m feeling pretty crushed right now.
Accepted! In-state, 3.97 GPA, 1340 SAT and decent ec’s. I don’t believe I received any scholarships and when i go to the financial aid section in my UW, it says aid has not yet been awarded. Does anyone know when will I be able to view the offered financial aid? Somewhat important in impacting my decision
