@JV2020 One of the only out of state scholarships UW offers is blue and gold, which they have already said in this this thread will be less than 8500 dollars per person this year. I don’t know it that factors in need based aid or not. Good luck!!
My daughter was waitlisted with 3.8 GPA/1490 SAT. UW was her #1 choice, so of course she’s disappointed.
She’s been accepted to a few other great schools so we’re not quite sure what to do at this point.
Can you give a bit more insight into when the waitlisted students are notified of their acceptance/rejection?
Do they all come out after decision day?
@2020MMCA my friend was waitlisted and he said he won’t be notified until August.
@stassie18 Per @UWadmissionstaff (comment 483), looks like some notices go out before May 1.
Would you be able to confirm this @UWadmissionstaff ? Please see comment 583.
Does anyone know what it meant to be admitted into a premajor? Does that mean I have to apply for my intended major again in my second year of university?
Correct. Each major has qualification requirements that are listed on each department’s web site, e.g., foundational coursework and minimum GPA. Admission to most majors is fairly straightforward, but some can be very competitive, particularly CS and some engineering specialties. Consequently, there is a risk that you might not get into your desired major after 2 years.
We live just north of Seattle- through Informed Delivery, I can see that an envelope from admissions office will be arriving today, 1 week after portal notification.
I get Informed Delivery and we also can see an envelope is in the mail with delivery today. We are in Seattle less than 5 miles from UW. So, notifications in the mail are on the way.
Sorry, not to be dense here, but my D was admitted as a Pre-Humanities major in the College of Arts and Sciences. She requested and is plannign to major in English. It looks like it’s a straightforward process to get in (it’s not an impacted major so it appears that she just needs to “declare” the major). But I’m wondering what it means that she wasn’t admitted directly. Does anyone know how it works? Again, sorry if this information is right under my nose and I’m missing it.
@cuppasbux English does not have any spots for direct admit (no freshman are admitted directly to an English major) so she got exactly what she wanted!!
@405emmag thank you! I thought that’s what it looked like, but I wasn’t completely sure. I appreciate the reply.
International student. Accepted as Engineering undeclared. SAT:- 1460/1600 and a 790 in Math level-2. Did any International student receive their letter and package yet though?
Hello Guys, I applied to Informatics at UW and last Friday I got accepted as a Pre-Major. However, I got an email from the Informatics Department yesterday that congratulated me about getting directly admitted to Informatics. I checked my portal again after receiving the email and I was really happy to see my assigned major as Informatics at the Information School. I just wanted to thank this community a lot as this thread has been very helpful to me and Good Luck to all you guys out there.
Hello Guys,
I just recieved my acceptance letter in the mail and was a recipient of the Purple and Gold scholarship, but it wasn’t nearly as much as my family was expecting. We were relying heavily on that in order for it to be feasible for me to go to UW. Some of my friends in college now reccommended that I call to ask them to reconsider the amount they offered me, but I was wondering what factors the scholarship takes into account to edecide how much to award because I would like to have an informed argument and the website is pretty vague. If anyone has any information please let me know!
Has anybody heard if engineering scholarships have been awarded? I was told that scholarship info would be included in the offer letters but the offer letter had nothing more than what the portal had. Does that mean no merit scholarship?
Daughter’s stats:
3.993 GPA, full IB diploma, 1500 SAT, National Merit, varsity sport captain, State and National science awards and science internships, coding-teaching job, etc.
Fingers crossed but wondering if that e-mail that said we didn’t qualify for financial aid means that there will be no merit aid either.
I suppose in the time of the pandemic, there are bigger worries. Nevertheless, it would be nice to cross off some of the uncertainty where possible.
(I should qualify: maybe full IB diploma. I’m hearing that possibly the IB tests will be canceled and the only option will be to take them in the fall. Nothing is certain I guess. Stay healthy!)
@hwatislife12345 Are you OOS? Where are you located? I am in NorCal and I haven’t received my package yet.

No way my family can afford to send me, but I’m happy I got accepted!
I’d love to know the range of scholarship offers other out of state students received.
Whats the max purple And gold scholarship?
Anyone know if your acceptance letters come with a merit award off or does that come seperately?
