***OFFICIAL UW FRESHMAN '24 THREAD*** ADMISSIONS/PREPARATION

Has anyone out of state received their package in the mail yet?

We are in state and >5 miles from campus and have not received the package.

Has anyone gotten the package yet (OOS)

Accepted to college of engineering, undeclared major.

GPA: W: 3.4
Rank: 24/~600
Major classes:
AP: Cal AB, Cal BC, Stats, Chem
IB - math HL, bio HL (pretty sure I’m getting my IB diploma)

ACT (total and sections): 35/36
SAT Subject Tests :
chem - 790/800
math 2 - 800/800

Subjective:

My EC’s really sucked. The only ā€œmajorā€ one is a volunteer work that I did since like 7th grade. I did scioly for a while but stopped after sophomore year. Some clubs here and there but not significant. No job, no internship.

OOS; Asian female; permanent resident

I would say my essays were pretty okay. 8/10 maybe? My rec letters should have been good, too. Also, a female going into STEM never hurts. My weakness is definitely my EC’s. The fact that I chose electrical engineering as my intended major when my coursework aligned with chemical engineering better could be one, too.

What about the Presidential Scholar? Are recipients already notified?

@Huskypup24 could you send me your GroupMe username? We can get a groupchat going then

Does the information below indicate a Direct Admit (DA) to Computer Science? My daughter indicated it is a direct admit, but I just want to be certain we understand this correctly.

Under Additional application information, I see the following:
ā€œYou requested the following major: Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciencesā€
ā€œYour assigned major: Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciencesā€

I do not see anything explicit stating it is a direct admit (DA). I’m new and not familiar with UW admissions - thank you!

Your daughter is right. If she wasn’t a direct admit, her assigned major would have been pre-science instead of CS.

Portal finally updated (so I think the issue was that D never set it up!).

Accepted
In state
4.0 UW (school doesn’t weigh)
8 APs
NMF
34 Act /1500 SAT
Lots of EC/ works as lifeguard etc.

I don’t think decisions will be available today.

That makes sense as a precautionary measure as UW is heading into the last week of the quarter and finals - they only have one week left in winter quarter. I don’t think this impacts admissions staff.

You have to click the upper left ā€œMyUWā€ and that will take you to the admissions portal - still no decisions.

My son has received 2-3 decisions over the weekend - so, always possible. My poor son applied the first week the application portal was open on Coalition. He was so excited - now, about six months later, no decisions the entire week :-(.

My son got in! Pre-sciences - Biology

Welcome to Wazzu all the STEM people who didn’t make it. Same education, but without you don’t have to cry yourself to sleep everynight.

In-State address in the Seattle area but no official package yet.
Any updates or ETA? Did anyone get the package? The myUW portal uses the past tense ā€œhave been mailed to youā€ so I expected to receive something being so close to campus.

Letters and offer materials are still being printed and mailed. I would imagine some should start receiving any day now. Thanks for your patience!

@UWadmissionstaff . Have recipients of Presidential Scholar already been notified?

To everyone who got accepted, congrats! And to everyone who didn’t, I’m sure there’s something better out there for you.

I wasn’t planning to share my stats, but I’ve been following this thread for quite a while (like since it was created lol) and it’s been extremely helpful, so I’d like to give back in the hopes that this may help someone else feeling the same jitters I was:

Accepted!
OOS
3.47/3.99 GPA (UW/W)
1440 SAT (710 Math/730 RW)
Program: Environmental Science and Terrestrial Resource Management
Extracurriculars: President of a non-profit club I’ve been involved in since 9th grade, Secretary of two other organizations, 250ish hours of volunteer work
Dual credit courses: completed my Associates in Science back in December, so that should knock off about two years!

I absolutely love UW and I would be ecstatic to attend, but I won’t be able to unless full tuition is covered, and I know that’s pretty steep for an OOS Student coming in. Does anyone know about how much I’d be able to cover if I got full financial aid (my family has an EFC of $0) and the Purple-Gold Scholarship, excluding housing since I’d be living with a relative? I’d probably get a part-time job of some sort if I attended.

I’m also wondering if there are any OOS Students who have covered full tuition through outside scholarships, or some other scholarships that UW offers. I’d like to confirm every fiscal option that exists before making a solid decision on what University to attend. Thanks a bunch!

(and shoutout to @UWadmissionstaff because you’ve literally already answered about half my questions before they even got asked. Keep up the great work! )

Son got admitted to College of Arts and Science(Economics)
