[OFFICIAL] Waiting Room

So, I am confused now. Someone said earlier that merit aid comes out Apr 1st, but others say it came out already? I take it I didn’t get anything then. =/

Anyway, to go back to the previous topic, I really do feel like Rice waited too long for their decisions. I just got back from WashU’s scholarship weekend today and I started off the weekend aching to know what my Rice status, and by the end, I seriously didn’t care as much anymore…

I still love Rice though… :D

First off, congrats to all those that got in! And, to those that didn’t get in or got waitlisted, don’t despair, there are plenty of schools out there and you will grow to love the school you end up choosing.

Regarding merit scholarships, you get notified via mail. In the package they send you, there will be an additional letter in the folder that explains you were awarded a merit scholarship. You can also check your Financial Aid Award Status if you applied for need-based aid. I applied for need-based aid last year, and although I didn’t get any, the financial aid letter told me that I received a merit scholarship. If you can’t access your financial aid letter, wait until your admission package comes in the mail.

I also commend all of you that have been patient and have not been complaining about how Rice was “late” in comparison to other universities. Although I know it is hard for you out-of-state students (trust me I know… being from a place that is 1000 miles away that very rarely sends people to Rice) to visit on such short notice, I hope you can still book tickets to visit if you haven’t. I suggest flying into Houston-Hobby airport on Southwest or Airtran; their fares are going to be cheaper than the main carriers (i.e. Continental, Delta, American, etc) and I’m sure you can still find air tickets to come down to Owl Days or Admit Days. Unfortunately, Rice does not provide transportation to the school, so I would make a reservation on the Super Shuttle ([SUPERSHUTTLE - Airport Shuttle | Airport Transfer | LAX SFO DEN PHX DFW TPA JFK BWI IAD SAN DCA SMF MCI IAH LGA MSP EWR AUS SNA HOU BUR DAL OAK BNA ONT LGB RDU SJC AZA ISP PTP PIE CDG ORY BVA Airports](http://www.supershuttle.com)) if you fly into Houston.

For those of you who were accepted and have not visited yet, we are all VERY excited to welcome you to our school during Owl Days and Admit Days!

Yeah, since I can’t view my financial aid offer online, looks like I might just have to wait for it in the mail.

That’s odd. I did not apply for Financial Aid, but I’ve had a FA tab since receiving an ESTHER account.

Well, my financial aid tab and pages are all there, but the page says “there is no financial aid information for you at this time”.

Can anyone tell me why I keep getting rejected everywhere?

Does anyone’s letter refer to acceptance in a specific school? My son applied to the school of architecture, but his letter only says he has been accepted to Rice. We are now wondering if he’s been accepted into the school of architecture.

wow, travistag. Thats hard to discern. maybe they thought you wouldnt accept??

well, i applied ED, so that should have given them some indication…:)

@travistag: it must be your essays that took you down. Did you spend a lot of time on your essays? from what I know, writing a Rice application essay is quite time-consuming.

i spent quite a bit of time on it. i took it to someone at my school who specializes in college essays and used to be an admissions person there, and she said it showed so much character that she would have her husband (who is currently a professor there) put in a good word for me, and i had never met her before.

@travistag: then I don’t understand why. Sorry. and good luck with your other schools! :)

thanks. I’m actually not upset, though reading my posts it probably looks as though I am. I’ll just go to a school that actually wants me bad enough to pay my way and give me top choice in class registration :)

My S got a Centry ($4,000 a year) plus Trustee scholarship ($15,800 a year). got this info through Esther website. Still awaiting for Rice/Baylor interview notice. Anyone got a phone call yet?

I didn’t get in. I’m heartbroken.

waitlisted…seems to be becoming a pattern, but then, I liked WashU better anyway

waitlisted…:(
what is rice’s history, with respect to accepting kids off the waitlist?

Are the merit scholarships renewable?
Do I automatically get the same scholarships each year if I maintain a certain GPA?

@swalia Not very good. Last year, they accepted no one off the waitlist. :frowning: I’m in the same boat as you.

rejected… now i can go cry :)
