Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses:
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: they probably think im going to university of Michigan. I dont think they like Michigan applicants.

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
cool not to get rejected :)

waitlisted wow so many…

waitlisted :(

Why are so many waitlisted!!!?

Decision: Waitlisted CAS

Stats:[ul]

[] GPA: 3.79 unweighted
[] Rank: Top 20%

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Great, about my mother’s disability and how its affects my family
[] Teacher Recs: I assume great
[] Counselor Rec: Same
[] Hook (if any): Absolutely none

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: NJ
[] School Type: Small Public
[] Ethnicity: White/Jewish
[] Gender: Male
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Weak Rank
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Did not interest, showed no interest in the school, class rank [/ul]

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Kinda just threw together this app because it had no supplement and decided to see what happened. Totally expected to get completely rejected. Most likely I wont be attending and maybe i wont even go on the waitlist, but it’s nice to not get rejected from such a selective school. Hopefully this is a good sign for when the rest of my decisions come back.

**Decision: WAITLISTED CAS **

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2270 (750 CR, 760 M, 760 W)
[] SAT IIs: 710 Math I, 710 Math II, 720 Bio M, 660 Lit
[] ACT
[] GPA: 4.6 w
[] Rank: 3/165
[] Other stats: NMFinalist, Top 10 Nationally for National French Contest past 3 years, AP Scholar with honor, Editor of school newspaper, officer positions in theatrical society, dance for 13 years, NHS, internship, job, Wellesley College book award, high honors…
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: common app long essay was excellent… whole thing was an allegory
[] Teacher Recs: pretty good, not superb, but did not read… though I believe my supplemental rec was outstanding
[] Counselor Rec: new counselor this year, did not read, but I feel like it’s pretty good, though prob. generic.
[] Hook (if any): idk… prob. nothing
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: MA
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Chinese… there’s a hook for you
[] Gender: F
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: I felt like because the app was only based off of one essay, the adofficers did not truly get to know the applicants as a person
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I was up to par, but did not stand out
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: A little ego-deflater, though WashU was NOT one of my top 3. I’m going to take myself off the waitlist, I got into USC, my third choice, with half tuition merit aid over a month ago, and got into Cornell, my second choice, yesterday. I just hope that this waitlist is no indication of my Penn decision, which is where I really want to go.
Good luck to everyone!! and congrats to those who have been accepted already!!

^Congrats on all your amazing news and good luck! I’m sure Penn would take you :)

Decision: Waitlisted :frowning:

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2320
[] SAT IIs: 800 Math II, 800 Chinese, 740 English Lit
[] ACT: 34
[] GPA: 3.9
[] Rank: 2/400
[] Other stats: Six 5s on APs, National Merit, National AP Scholar
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Good
[] Teacher Recs: Good
[li] Counselor Rec: Good
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: UT
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: Female
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: National awards for piano, a ton of leadership positions, independent research, state/regional champion for debate and tennis, state and national awards in math and engineering related activities
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I am very disappointed. I’m not trying to sound arrogant but in all honesty I expected to be accepted, especially since others at my school who had much lower stats than me and had done less in terms of ecs and leadership received early notifications. I don’t think I fall under the “too good for Wash U” category, so I am just wondering what was wrong with my app that made them waitlist me.

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Good luck to everyone else.

Decision: Accepted into CAS!

Stats:
SAT I: 2160 (M750, V730, W680)
SAT IIs: USH740, MII700, WH700, CHEM650
GPA: 3.72UW (Including a C junior year and a midyear report of 3.28UW)
Rank: School doesn’t report, but it’s probably top 10%.
Extracurriculars: Volleyball Coach, Forensics: Senator, Hospital Volunteer, CSF, School’s honor society, Pre-Med Club, Altar Server, Piano
Other Stats: National Merit Commended, AP Scholar with Distinction

Subjective:
Essays: I didn’t think it was particularly well-written, but I like the topic I wrote about (being a volleyball coach).
Teacher Recs: Didn’t read, but they must have been pretty good.
Counselor Rec: Didn’t read. I don’t see my counselor very much, so I was afraid that it would be very generic (must have been pretty good though).
Hook (if any): None.

Location/Person:
State or Country: California
School Type: Fairly-Competitive Public
Ethnicity: Asian-American
Gender: Female

Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: SAT’s are in the range, but I think the GPA is rather low (especially the downward trend). The essay was probably well-received, and the recommendations were probably fairly good. I am a first-generation college student.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I showed a fair amount of interest in the school, including visiting. I had an interview with a parent of a student, and I think it went quite well.

Other Factors: EFC was estimated to be very high, so I probably won’t be receiving much financial aid. The aid would be nice though (even loans with low interest rates).

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I had received an early notification inviting me to the multicultural weekend, which was definitely surprising. I really didn’t think I had much of a chance of getting in, so this is quite exciting. I’ll have to wait on a couple of other decisions before deciding where to attend, but WUSTL is looking very good.

I agree, ultimateslacker (feels weird calling you that, seeing your ultimate non-slacker stats)…I’m curious what’s wrong with my application, and yours too. If I had gotten rejected, somehow that would have been much simpler to understand. But waitlist is different.

**Decision: Waitlist, im so disappointed. **

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I:2190, 750V 800M 650W

[] ACT
[] GPA: 3.82
[] Rank: school doesnt rank
[] Other stats: 5 on AP Physics C M/EM, Calc BC, Chem, Bio, Comp Sci A
[/ul][ b]Subjective:**[ul]
[] Essays: so-so since i didnt get in
[] Teacher Recs: again not too great i guess
[] Counselor Rec: must be horrible since our counselors are writing rec for about 800-1000 seniors
[] Hook (if any): too bad im asian
[ /list][ b]Location/Person:[ /b][ list]
[] State or Country: CA
[] School Type:Public
[] Ethnicity:Chinese
[] Gender:M
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses:low SAT score maybe, although im recent immigrant
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied:i didnt apply for scholarship and didnt show interest in the app i guess
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: im either deferred or waitlisted to all the privates so far…

waitlisted as well
I wish I had known that washu considered need in the admissions process because I probably wouldn’t have applied

MallomarCookie: Yeah… I am just very VERY confused as of right now… hopefully this is not a reflection of how other schools evaluate their applicants.

i completely agree ultimateslacker and mallomarcookie…
this makes me nervous!

Last year 144 students enrolled from the waitlist last year according to US News. They don’t give us the number that were offered a spot or that accepted a spot on the list. Since make their decision after May 1st whether or not you’re going to be accepted it would seem that they would accept at least double that amount off the waitlist.

As someone who was rejected in the early decision round, I can tell you that rejection hurts a lot more. After the pain I felt back in December, I was beyond terrified when I was about to click that button today. I didn’t want to get rejected from my number one school AGAIN. So, I’m sooo excited that I was not rejected. There is still hope for all of us waitlistees. If they did accept less people to avoid the housing crisis that they faced last year, then there is a better chance for us to get accepted off the waitlist. I’m just anxious for the end of June now! lol

And, WSham0, you just made me a lot happier for saying that 144 people enrolled of the waitlist!

If you were rejected how did you get another decision?

**Decision: Waitlisted **

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2300 (800W, 780M, 720R)
[] SAT IIs: 780 Bio-M, 750 Math IIC, 740 US History
[] GPA: 4.5W, 3.9UW
[] Rank: N/A
[] Other stats: National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar w/ Distinction, CSF…
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I thought they were great, my teachers seemed to like them
[] Teacher Recs: Saw one, it was good, others I don’t know
[] Counselor Rec: No idea, but she likes me
[] Hook (if any): 14 years of classical music in two instruments
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: California
[] School Type: Public, competitive
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: Male
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Umm…kind of threw this application together rather quickly, but it WAS an easy app.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Don’t want to hazard any guesses, I know the admissions process is odd.[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I’m not mad or anything, especially considering ALL of my friends got waitlisted as well (I’m talking like 15 people here) from my school, and looking here it seems we’re in good company. And according to my friend’s older brother, the same exact thing happened his year too, to people that were WAAAAAY overqualified. So I hope no one is too bummed by a waitlist decision, and congratulations to everyone that got in!

Punky, it must be that cowtipper was rejected ED at another school.

WSham0 Last year nobody was accepted off the waitlist - since they had more people decide to attend than they expected. They over enrolled by over 100 students from the original group of accepted students.
