Waitlisted at CAS…???

Odd; sorry if this data is wrong and is giving people false hope… US News says 05-06 Admissions Statistics; Students enrolled from the waitlist: 144.

is it me or are alot of highly qualified people getting waitlisted, and people with less impressive stats getting in (no offense) i am one of the higher scoring people and i got waitlisted as well

^now now. don’t generalize based on a couple stats on a website. you can’t see essays, recommendations, extracurricular details, etc., and those are all important, it’s not just scores, especially with wash u admissions

i know i know but its just kinda strange thats all, i dont mean to hurt anyones feelings i am just trying to make my self feel better

Waitlisted…

Stats are high like most all the other people I’ve read who were also waitlisted.

But can’t help but think that my needing fin. aid was the deal killer. I know 3 people from my area who were accepted, one ED and the other 2 RD and none of them will require any fin. aid. The real kicker…my stats are higher than theirs.

If I had discovered this board before I decided to apply, I wouldn’t have. I didn’t realize that they weren’t a need blind school.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: looking at all of the waitlisted stats, i don’t see much really different from mine. some are even better, like 2400 and waitlisted?! i didn’t even go to the interview. but maybe wash u’s adcom is on crack…

Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: wash u is sort of a bottom choice for me, so my spot is up for grabs good luck to everyone!

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Somewhat surprised I got in, considering I somewhat half-assed my application because I thought my chances weren’t great. Congratulations to everyone who got in, and goodluck to those waitlisted. For those who got a “no”, consider this: Fate/Admissions Office decided that you were not a good fit for Wash U, so you wouldn’t have been happy going there anyway. There are other great colleges where you would be happy at anyway.

thanks for clarifying cowtipper

lol wow I love how you get in with WashU as your bottom choice and other people dying to get in with similar stats get waitlisted. No offense meant to you or anything, but it is obvious that admissions committees are not the best at keeping their yield up.

I’m curious, did any of the accepted people apply for financial aid?

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I’m not completely devestated, as WUStL was not my #1, but I would still consider it if I had gotten in…nobody likes rejection.

Decision: Waitlisted!!!..but then again, who wasn’t??

To be completely honest, my stats were not nearly as superb as many others on this board and I definitely considered WashU to be a reach. Both my college counselors and I considered Emory, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, Wesleyan, and Brandeis to be my “matches.” Nevertheless, I’m thrilled about my waitlist status!

SAT I: 2050
ACT: 30
School type: small, extremely competitive (32 people in my senior class)
GPA: 91
Teacher Recs: really good, including one from the headmaster of my school.
School location: Houston, TX
Extracurriculars: the usual - a fair amount of community service, vice-president of NHS, co-editor of school newspaper, good summer stuff
Ethnicity: white, jewish

**After being rejected early decision from Barnard, this school became my top choice, despite its low acceptance rate. Additionally, the fact that WashU doesn’t have a supplemental essay in which I could display my strength in writing led me to write a letter to the head of admissions saying that if accepted, I would choose to attend WashU. I really think that this is what got me on the waitlist.

SO, let this be a lesson to all of you who are about to start this horrific college process: YOU NEVER, EVER KNOW. NOTHING about me being waitlisted makes sense, and by all other standards, I should’ve been rejected.

**Decision: Waitlisted CAS (surprise surprise!) **

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: i’m not that surprised, wasn’t my top top choice although i do like the school a lot, i think i’m decently qualified but no more than most of the other students who applied! i just am worried because data from my school from past years showed i was likely to get accepted, and i hope this is not a trend among my other schools.[/li][/ul]Other Factors:

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: VERY VERY EXCITED!

Can we just take a wait-list as a rejection? C’mon, what’s the likelihood we’re going to get off the darn wait-list? Plus, by that time, most of us here with these stellar stats will have already gotten into better schools and what not.

Congrats to everyone accepted!! strangely enough, finding out my decision was rather anticlimatic. i’m obviously bummed but i think it just means that washu isn’t the right school for me so i won’t be accepting a place on the wait list.
