[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: ^
[/ul][ b]Other Factors:**
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I’m fairly upset by this only because I fear it’s an indication of what’s to come. I’m not joining the waitlist though. Screw that.

your sat was definetly not low. It probably was too high. They were most likely protecting yield or financial aid.

Location/Person:
State or Country: California
School Type: large public

Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses:
Probably the letters of rec from my ballet and voice teacher - I also demonstrated a lot of interest in the school, maybe that helped.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied:General
Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Honestly, I’m shocked. This is the first school other than UC’s that I’ve gotten into (I got deferred ED from another school) Congrats to everyone else who got in, and best of luck to everyone else.

For what its worth I applied for financial aid, but probably won’t get very much

Yea, don’t fret about it, where ever you will go, you will be fine. Your future won’t be devastated.

Waitlisted…
I’d rather be rejected honestly (or accepted of course)
anyway, at least have ONE other school to fall back on

I am probably gonna be blasted here but I can’t help speculating the following. That WashU waitlists just about everyone not accepted helps to lower their acceptance rate, which is factored into US News ranking, while shielding themselves from the risk of under-enrolling. They are going to sit and wait; in the event of not having enough admits matriculating, they can turn to the large group of waitlist (that they waitlist so many should guarantee a large enough group staying on it) and take advantage of the very high yield in that group.

On the other hand, if they rejected most of those not accepted like most schools do, they would have needed to admit a larger pool (hence higher acceptance rate) of students to protect themselves against the yield which has been on the low side compared to its peers.

So WashU is simply playing very smart.

definitely probably true Sam Lee, and not the first time that’s been brought up. they’ve been well known for their admissions game, although I didn’t think I’d really be witnessing it firsthand.

yeah, I donno if I agree with the above statement… I’m waitlisted, but considering that no one was accepted off the waitlist last year (according to an earlier post in this discussion), I’m not sure if they are planning on accepting many of the waitlist this year… I could be wrong though… it IS strange that they waitlisted practically everybody not accepted…

Well, don’t judge by CC…although we did have 3 waitlists and 1 accept at our high school and no rejects.
Maybe the people who didn’t get accepted/waitlisted are too shy to post on here. They shouldn’t be…so…if you’re reading this…lol…

If you look at other official acceptance threads for other colleges, you can see a few reject posts. So is it weird that Wash U has no rejects posting?

This is the acceptance thread for UCSB: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=312265

See, some people are putting that they got rejected…why not at Wash U? Because all of us got wait listed!!!

Last year’s waitlistings weren’t NEARLY as bad as this year. It’s like a massacre.

CC also gets more and more popular every day. No surprises.

Decision: Accepted CAS!!!

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: It feels great to finally be accepted somewhere and not have to stress so much. Best of luck to all those who were waitlisted or rejected

To all of you:
I asked why are so many kids waitlisted and they toll me that nobody is in the waitlist until he/she decided to be in it by sending the card, so regularly there are between 200 and 250 in the waitlist. The school gives you a second chance if you really want to go there, expecting that kids that were accepted won?t enroll. Last year, there were more kids that they were expecting to enroll by about 200, so the waitlist was never called. Good luck to everyone.

my best friend got in …Olin , she has IB predicted grades of full marks and a TOEFL score of 647. and she went to Harvard Summer school.

Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: GPA really low
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: WHY are they waitlisting like…FREAKING EVERYONE this year!?! it looks like they waitlisted 10 times more applicants than they accepted…weiiiiird. plus i thought i’d be able to get in through connections! my dad is on the APAP association there, and my sister is a washU grad! not that that means much nowadays…but still! it’s upsetting. hahah.
Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: everyone who was waitlisted…doesn’t this suck.
