School type: public
Comments: Kind of surprised to get in but hey, im not complaining

Wow, a kid at our school got the Robertson Scholarship to Duke, but WashU waitlisted him.

Can it be any more obvious that they’re screwing with people? Why aren’t people more outraged by this?

How can US News let this continue? The way that WashU has manipulated its admissions casts doubts on the validity of its ranking. To say nothing of the ethics of the people who are running the school.

uzbek: You obviously do not know much about the college admssions process if you think winning the Robertson should guarantee admission into any other top aschool let alone WashU. You have not seen the applications to each to compare. To judge the ethics of a school based on a few friends or CC posters seems a bit foolish.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: maybe because D is varied - academics, sports on a state level, music on a state level. Also ECs involve a project that started small and local, and developed into one conducted on a national level.
Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: D only applied to 4 schools and has been accepted to all four - a great feeling!

u cant compare someones admission to one school to another school when you are talking about schools like Washington and Duke. Each prestigious school has their own criteria for admission and they can accept whomever they want. It is not incumbent for the school to admit someone with perfect stats if they feel that he or she wouldnt fit in at the school.

Chaterbox: How’d you get in? Aren’t you over qualified? Congrats!!!

^lol :)

(10 characs)

If you join the wait list, is it a binding contract?

[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Hooray, they’re paying me to visit them in April.

Of course not.

Waitlisted

:(

The comments about “overqualified” people being waitlisted are off the mark. Wash U clearly isn’t looking for “academic superstars” or traditionally perfect candidates. They’re looking for a different kind of student. Which is their prerogative.

Waitlisted.

Just wanted to say bye to the Wash U board, because everyone knows what happens to a dream deferred (lol props to those who get the literary reference). See you around CC, or maybe at a different college in, count em, 6 months!

apples25,

I thought someone showed that WashU accepted 144 off waitlist last year. But then we had another person saying no. But either way, if you read my post again, you would found that my analysis holds even if no one got off the waitlist. It’s a strategy that works both ways. That’s why WashU is smart. ;)

Very clever, MusicNut07. You must also be a literature nut!

Wow. I feel so lucky for getting in… All these people with crazy stats getting deferred. Jeez, did washu write up a new agenda? I can’t believe they waitlisted so many qualified students. I feel as if i don’t deserve my acceptance.

Fruitloops89–Wash U. obviously saw something they really liked in you. Don’t second-guess the acceptance–just celebrate! Congratulations!

When u have a pool of 22000 students, it is obvious that many extremely qualified students will not be accepted. In some senses it is just a numbers game and there are too many kids for not enough spots. GL to all though.
