oldolddad, your s is impressive. you are lucky that your s did not get waitlisted by washu. did he win a merit scholarship there?

Maybe not so lucky…and yes.

yes, I am very surprised that the school was not afraid that he would turn them down as it seems probable that he will get into some top schools and ivies. He must have shown a lot of genuine interest.

I think the overall data would reveal that many top students get into there and several other schools. You could not have the school stats that WashU has if they turn down every kid they can get into an IVY. All the top stat students in my classes who have applied to WashU have been accepted.

Anyone else accepted in the January Program? I probably won’t be attending, but I’m still thrilled to be accepted to this school. Congrats to all acceptees :)

Congratulations, Ryno! State Fiddle Champion–what a great hook! Best of luck wherever you go.

Thanks Hindoo! I visited WUSTL in November and came away feeling like it wasn’t the place for me. I dream of going to Notre Dame though… I think I’ll cry when I get my letter-- either way.

Oh yeah, the other thing… It feels so good to be accepted to WUSTL because my high school never sends grads to top schools. It’s the type of place that sends its valedictorians to the local community college.

I want to buck the trend so bad.

It sounds like you’re well on your way to bucking the trend! My fingers are crossed that you’ll get the letter you hope for from Notre Dame! It’s also a fantastic school.

[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I definitely showed interest in visiting WashU and communicating with the admissions office over concerns on my application. I also spent a helluva time writing scholarship essays (which obviously didn’t work out). I don’t think I was overqualified but I am honestly a bit surprised that I seem to be underqualified. I just hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. Talking to other people from my school (which was had a few people accepted but no one attending), everyone seems to be waitlisted. Oh well.
[/ul]
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Congrats to everyone who got in! Once I got the scholarship no, I wasn’t planning on attending, so this is all the best that someone who wants to go got in.

I also applied for financial aid; I don’t know whether that was a factor. According to FAFSA though, I wouldn’t have been getting much anyways.

Unfortunately, I realized WashU was not need blind after I had already applied.

incubyte–You are certainly not underqualified for WashU. Whatever their reasons were for waitlisting you, I’m sure it had little to do with qualifications. Academically, you’re clearly one of the best. Your impressive writing/editing experiences at a young age will provide a foundation for future success all through your life. Other top schools will find your resume quite impelling, I’m certain of that. So don’t get discouraged. Best of luck with your other colleges!

Incubyte, you are very likely to be accpeted by an IVY or Stanford, MIT or Duke. Wash U waitlisted you is a re-assurance that your chances are high to get into at least one of the top schools, in their professional eyes.
