wow.
ap physics c. can you say GENIUS!!
I love physics (im in honors), but AP Physics C <—!!!
I am still marveling over how one can get that far! Good job!

It’s a hard class. I’m also taking it. I am very bad at it but I figure that one B won’t kill me, as long as I’m taking a stab at something challenging then it’s worth it.

That is a really good way of looking at an intense class.

I concur. Of the 15 or so students in my AP Physics C class, there is one A (an A- at that). The likely valedictorian of our class, who hadn’t gotten a B in forever, got a B last quarter. So, yes, it is quite hard.

Everyone, I merely wanted to say hi. I applied SCEA. Basically, I just realized that there are people posting regularly on this thread since I don’t check CC often enough. Or I haven’t in the past couple of months. This post seems semi-awkward, but what I’m trying to say is “hi” and “I might post again.” I haven’t posted my stats on this thread, but they’re not very impressive and I get quite disheartened when I realize that I’m not really special and probably won’t get in. On the bright side, I took a chance and if I do get in, I’ll be ecstatic.

Some people posted essay topics, so I guess I might as well share mine to give this post more of a purpole. Drumroll, please…bangs on kitchen pots and pans with a stirring spoon

Common App: My relationship with my mother and how living without her during my junior year of high school ultimately helped make me a more independent person

Supplementary Essay: How my experiences as a child growing up in a war still affect me psychologically; also how these experiences have influenced some of the extracurricular activities that I do as well as helped me define my overall goals in life

I hated Physics C, mainly because I was going through a really tough time personally (too much family drama) during my junior year of high school, so I wasn’t able to focus enough to do as well as I had wanted. Then again, I wound up with a B somehow. So I’d say not to worry too much about it and to form some kind of study group with a few responsible students so that you can solve problem sets together (my teacher didn’t teach all that much, so you basically had to get it all by yourself. He was also kind of weird in that he gave me a speech about how disappointed he was to see me wasting my potential.).

I’m just hoping that I’ll never have to take physics again. Unless I want to for fun or to prove something to myself, that is.

lol self-studied physics c and got 5s on both- screw taking the actual class, who has the time =P

ditto as EliHopeful07 on Physics C right now… to the letter, basically.

Don’t worry too much about your Bs guys…I talked to an admissions officer recently during an interview at UChicago, and he told me an anecdote that was really relevant…he had just interviewed another senior, a girl who was taking AP Physics and was getting a B. He said admissions committees really appreciate that kind of thing because it shows willingness to take an intellectual risk. That relieved me a little, but then I realized that that school admits 4 times as many people as Yale does…Yale can afford to pass up intellectual risk takers who got Bs and admit people who were more successful in their risk taking and got all As. Well, we brought this upon ourselvses by applying early :D

sportsman8433 - way too many people live in Bergen County. You might as well become the 6th borough of NYC.

Dang, and I thought Physics B was super hard…I can’t even fathom 5ing both C’s…you guys are ridiculous…

And, btw, damn you overachieving Indian males :)

EAD: Wow, so koena are you a supporter of constitutional democracy(USA)/communism(China)/theocracy(Iran)/military dictatorship(Pakistan)/democratic republic(India)? Which country/culture do you most identify with?? Your life could function as a fascinating foreign policy case study IMHO(sorry I’m an IR nerd)

Not that I support theoretical communism, but China’s system, at least when I was there, was pretty amazing. I guess because China is kind of parading under the masquerade of communism while simultaneously sort of adopting some of the more democratic Western capitalist ideas. I don’t know…it’s mostly an amalgam, I’d say. But anyways, everything was super efficient when I lived there, despite the relative hugeness of the city I lived in (Guangzhou), and people seemed genuinely happy and had the typical Asian warmness about them. At least socially and economically, communism is working out really well for China, though it can’t be considered pure communism. So I’m definitely in favor of China’s current system. I’m definitely not the expert here though, so sorry if I offend anyone who’s Chinese…just sharing my opinion.

As for American constitutional democracy, I am always a huge supporter of rights in general, especially those that allow for free speech (in case you didn’t notice  lol) so yeah

I really don’t care for Iran’s current regime, but I’d mostly attribute the current state of Iran to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, so I don’t think it’s really anyone’s fault but his. Not really a fan of military dictatorships either.

Come on, you have to love India, where the rich are always gonna be richer, the poor always poor…corruption is widespread within the government…there’s no organization or unity among the states…seriously though, the lack of organization kind of makes India India, so no complaints really.

As for identifying with cultures…I’m just kind of in an ongoing identity crisis. I mean, I look Iranian (I have green eyes, for example), speak Hindi/Bengali, keep in touch with all my friends from China, and go to a 97% white high school. So yeah, I definitely can’t say I identify more with any one culture, because I’m just kind of all of them at once type thing.

Well that’s my take on things, do you, or anyone else for that matter, have any opinions?
