Hi Everyone…are there any athletes out there applying scea? What is your experience so far? I’m not allowing myself to get excited, but what an honor it would be to represent Yale!

Off topic, but I just wanted to share my newest Official Freak Out with all you other EAers. Ready for this? It’s a big one.

Okay, so I sent Yale only one test score, the October ACT. Theoretically, that score should have reached them two weeks ago when scores were first released. But no. Mine was delayed. TWO WEEKS LATER mine is still delayed. I called Yale and they said they MUST receive the score by Friday at the very latest. Yale receives ACT scores digitally on Wednesdays. So if my score isn’t uploaded in the next two days, Yale won’t receive it in time. The ACT customer service guy said he has NO IDEA if mine is going to be there in time, but he didn’t sound too hopeful given that (get this), they haven’t even started grading it yet. WHAT THE HELL? omg.

whew.
okay.
just had to share.

in the meantime, I’m sending Yale an update on NFAA ARTS, in the off chance they do get my scores in time to still consider me EA.

I thought scores were only delayed when they were not available. If you were able to view your scores on line there should be no reason why they cannot get them out other than they are backlogged.
I think you need to go higher than speaking just to the customer service person at ACT or even their supervisor. In the meantime I would print out the score report on line if you are able to print it out and fax the unofficial report. You may even ask ACT if they could electronically send your scores even though it is not the official report.
I would definitely fax or overnight the information about the NFAA to Yale irregardless of whether or not they received the scores.

Is Yale REALLY NOT EVEN GOING TO CONSIDER YOU FOR SINGLE CHOICE EARLY ACTION vegangirl if they don’t have a Writing score from the ACT?? I would hope they would be at least somewhat more lenient but I guess the underlying lesson here for all of us is that we need to be more proactive and keep on top of deadlines for colleges/scholarships.

cozmo: i hope it’s not true that there can only be one of us! (at yale, that is. generally, it’d be pretty funny if one of us ceased to exist).

and collegebound… irregardless is so not a word :P

From Dictionary.com “Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.”

… and yet dictionary.com still has an entry for it… doesn’t that constitute its existance as a word, whether or not intellectuals snub it? At what point does it leave the realm of made-up and enter our language officially? Oh if only we had our own Acadamie Francaise…

Not so much technically that it’s not a word (as it has sort of become one through its fallacious use by so much of the American population), but rather it is a false use for the fact that it’s redundant.
Regardless is much more proper.
18 days guys.
18 days.
Anyone else like me and still have about 20 essays to write for other schools? :(
