Have anyone of you checked out the acronyms at aim.com? I want to know who uses these. I mean there’s a few that are almost essential, but everything else is not normal. Maybe it’s just me, but I have never used POC (point of contact), WU? (what’s up?), or BICBW (but I could be wrong). I suspect aim made up most of these.

Now I feel really stupid for spelling the title wrong.

I say “lol”, “btw:, “lmao”, “jk”, “nm”, “g2g”, “brb”,“ttyl”,mainly. and i shorten words like"you” to “u” and “are” to “r”. stuff like that.

Ahh… I hate when people use “r” instead of “are” and “u” instead of “you”!!
Anyway, this reminds me of a story…
Earlier this year, my lab partner/friend told me about a report on Dateline about “online predators”. They were mostly speaking to adults when they said this: “Be wary of your child’s internet activities. There are certain acronyms that you should be specially aware of, like ‘NIOFC’”. Of course, neither my friend nor I knew what this meant, but he told me, “Naked In Front Of the Computer”. We wrote it all over our other friend’s notebook!! Good times, good times…

my issue is with people who spell words incorrectly, but not to save time. just to be cool i guess? the words im talking about are gurl (sometimes gyrl for the especially horrendous); kewl; etc. Its so annoying!

That NIOFC story literally made me laugh out loud!

Yes, I don’t understand gurl or kewl either. :p

i use r and u to save time, not to be “kewl” FYI. I love computer lingo, and i dont carry it over into my schoolwork, so who gives a crap?

I don’t like r and u. I just find it irritating. I don’t know why, just a pet peeve I guess :p

nmjcu
lolz*****
internet slang is kewl ><
.___.
wut r u doing??

shoots self.

Yeah, I normally see them written as “you” and “are”, so it doesn’t make sense to me when I see random r’s and u’s in the middle of sentences lol… Yeah, it’s annoying when I see “gurl” and “kewl”! When I message someone, I don’t normally capitalize my i’s or use periods.

hahahaha. I don’t mind btw, imo, lol, and a few others, but when I need 5 minutes to dissect your message, you’ve gone overboard :p

I don’t capitalize my I’s and only use periods if I’m typing more than one sentence. sometimes I don’t capitalize the beginning. :p

In the military we use POC all the time.

okay civilians don’t use these things that much. :p

NIFOC was a huge joke over at some of the other message boards I used like a year ago. Ahhh, the memories.

lol i h8 wen ppl write h0le sentences like this, cuz its really annoyin nd makes me say wut r u talkin about? dey say its so kewl n they put in all knds o inside jokes and lmaos and jk!!!s n othr such things ok ttyl bai.

No really, I can’t stand when people type like that. Just about the only thing I do is not capitalize my "i"s when talking online.

well i hate that too but when i text message i kind of use that because it saves time and i type/press too slowly. But on the computer i find it annoying.

PEOPLE WHO TYPE IN ALL CAPS ARE DESTINED TO BE ON **** W****ELFARE

I use “dunno” instead of “don’t know” a fair bit.

I say dunno too. I use it because that’s kind of how I say it in real life, like an all-slurred up verison of the proper way of saying it ;)
