Ok Fashionistas, I have a question for you.

I love clothes and fashion. I like to stay current. My question is about waterfall cardigans. They have been around now for a few years and I’ve loved them. I thought they were out of fashion this year, but I do still see quite a few being sold, even in the juniors department. I have one that I was going to purge before I went shopping today. I just bought it 2 years ago. The back is waist length and The waterfall is exaggerated and goes past my knees. It is light grey and a thin floaty fabric. Looks great with skinnys, boots, etc.

So, what do you think?

Also, I know infinity scarfs are also going out. So are you Fashionistas going to still wear yours? I have one that I bought last year at WHBM that has gorgeous colors and I always get compliments…plus it cost me $50. Ok…ive answered my own question on that scarf…but would like your opinions anyway

One trend this year I’m not going for is the bell sleeve. I don’t like it that much and I think it will only be around this year. Im not buying.

On another note, concerning my wardrobe purge post…i got rid of 24 items of clothing!

I’d keep both the sweater and the scarf! I also like to stay current but don’t purge everything in my wardrobe - especially if it’s only a year or two old and I like it.

The only thing I’d stop wearing immediately once out of style wouid be animal print anything. I solve that by never buying anything animal print.

I hate bell sleeves too.

Yay for good job of purging!

My thing is…if you like something, then keep it and wear it. If you don’t…get rid of it.

I personally never liked infinity scarves…and own none.

I don’t have any of those sweaters either…but if I did…and I liked them…I would continue to wear them.

Look around you. There are plenty of folks wearing clothing that isn’t the current trend…and they look just fine!

I know Thumper…but those people aren’t Fashionistas. I’d say on a scale of 1 to 10, I’m probably an 8. So, if it’s totally out of fashion, I’m just not going to wear it. A lot of my clothes are staples, but I like to mix in the current trends, so I thought I’d get the opinions of those who do the same as I.

conmama, What do you think when you see a woman wearing something that in your mind is out of fashion? Do you think, what a frump? How bad a fashion sin do you think it is?

As to me, I buy things I like and think are flattering on me. Then I wear them. But I don’t count for the purposes of your question because I’m not a fashionista.

I think they just don’t care about fashion that much, or they don’t have the funds. It could be a number of things. I think sometimes they don’t live in a metropolitan area, so they don’t see trends change. I wouldn’t say frump. To me that’s someone that never wears anything fashionable or does anything to their appearance to enhance themselves.

My favorite blogger just had a post on infinity scarves on Friday. And your waterfall cardigan sounds very stylish, I have a few and think that they are pretty much a staple. I also see them still being sold so I think they are in.

I like to be stylish but try not to be super trendy. I also have a bell sleeve top, I got tons of complements on it. The only problem is that it’s not fun to eat in so the purpose is limited.

Oh and my D had a French manicure done yesterday.

Thanks deb22…glad I didn’t get rid of it today. Well, maybe I’ll spend just a little on one bell sweater

I’m happy to hear about the French manicure, also. I got an off white shiny gel instead and just wasn’t happy. I missed my French gel. I might try it next time with a little color instead of clear next time.

I still get French manicures too.

I’m not a fashionista at all, but I know that the waterfall cardigan is still popular. I see them frequently in mail order catalogs and while I’m online “window shopping”. I think they look very nice and stylish.

No offense, but the infinity scarf never appealed to me - they don’t even look comfortable. I know that many fashion trends are not real functional or practical, but I just don’t see the point of them. I think they look kind of bulky (even if they’re made with a light weight material) and disrupt a “clean line”. Kind of like taking a photograph of someone and cutting their legs off at the knee. I just googled them and looked at the images, and the majority of what I saw still confirms my opinion.

I do like the look of a few that showed up in my google search, but the models are beautiful and thin - I like the scarves, but they’d look ridiculous on me.

If you always get compliments while wearing yours, then the look is obviously working for you.

What difference does it make if it’s an infinity scarf or not? By the time you put it on and wrap it around once or twice, no one knows it’s an infinity scarf. It’s all about the colors, the fabric, and the pattern.

I am no fashionista by any stretch, but I do like waterfall cardigans, they flatter many body types. Not a fan of bell sleeves, though I think it could be pretty in a flowy fabric for a piano recital or something lIke that. The current style that I dislike are tops and dresses with the cut outs in the shoulders. I do not think it looks flattering at all, but then again noone asked me.

I’d keep the scarf, it sounds really nice.

Four or five years ago I got a bell sleeved sweater I hated so much I actually got out my sewing machine for the first time in years and turned it into regular sleeves. It drove me bananas. I don’t pay too much attention to what’s in fashion, though I prefer not to look too dowdy. Never got an infinity scarf or a waterfall cardigan - if it still makes you happy, I say wear it.

I say wear what looks good on you and you enjoy, but then I am what you would probably call a frump.

I am generally not inclined to buy things that are really trendy, so my clothes don’t become obviously dated very quickly.

I like long scarves that can be worn in various ways, but I’ve never found infinity scarves particularly attractive.

I think it is possible to be extremely stylish but not on trend at all. jmho

I am not trendy but believe I am stylish. I really prefer classics for many/most things and wear them well.

I do like some fashions better than others and wear a select few. Mostly I’ve avoided high-low hems and cold shoulders and animal prints. I also have never acquired any infinity scarves, tho I like other scarves.

As a self proclaimed fashionista (lol) I say No to the cardigan (the back to front length ratio is too much IMO), no to the bell sleeve look (if you’re middle aged, even if you happen to look young for your age) and depends on the scarf and how you wrap it. That’s just me though. I’d have see it in person and see it on you but since this is a forum I just have to go by your descriptions

As for French manicures, have you tried the French fade?

I’m happy the flowing tops with bell sleeves (bell near the bottom, not whole sleeve) are back in style. I’m tempted to buy every one I see and wear them for the next ten years. It’s a style that looks good on my shape so I feel good in them. I would like to be a fashionista but can’t since very few styles look good on my current shape.

I have infinity scarves but will keep them for a while longer. I don’t have any cardigans that are shorter in back than front.
