<p><em>sigh</em>, i’ve been shoping for dorm stuff for the past three days, and i don’t think my poor bank account can handle much more. 
I did save though, by buying most of the stuff at dollar stores and walmart.</p>

<p>It is not “chic” to admit that one enjoys shopping. After all, purchasing something(s) for an envisioned event or home or holiday is somewhat sinful nowadays. </p>
<p>Well: Yes, I enjoy going to Trader Joe’s, Saks, Nordstrom AND Neiman Marcus. I’ll go to all those stores and will go through waiting to be inspired, be it for a meal or an event. I’ll even go online a shop (perish the thought). So, for all of us shoppers (and my husband never sets foot in a store unless he needs suits) all together now, “One, two three SWIPE!!!” (and just imagine the mileage that is coming from the purchases!) On that note: must shop for a new rain purse…And I don’t feel guilty…at all.</p>
<p>I’m not shy to admit that I enjoy shopping once in a while - but I buy stuff only if I find a good deal. What’s a rain purse?</p>

<p>Shopping is less fun for me the older I get. How much ‘stuff’ can a person use, anyway? I was in BBB this morning with D to get some things for her dorm room. I was reminded of Roz Chast’s cartoon: a drawing of a box store with a sign that read “Bed, Bath and Beyond Me”.</p>
<p>But about the shopping thing, I think we have what John Updike in “Widows of Eastwick” calls “New England money”. It only wants to be spent for educational purposes.</p>

<p>We’re doing our share to prop up the economy. I have one girl who LOVES to shop. Just not a fan of BB&B, sorry to say.</p>
<p>I did it! I did it! I propped up the sagging economy! And I have a beautiful Chantelle bra from Nordstrom to prop up my sagging… nevermind. The mall was half-full, but every shopper had a bag or two in their hands.</p>
<p>A rain purse is a purse that you don’t care if it gets wet and ruined. It can be very attractive but in faux…leather…patent…whatever. I must admit that I love really nice purses, but rain can spot and ruin a purse in a hurry. Other than taking off my coat and putting the purse over my shoulder and THEN putting the coat back on (which does save a purse as well) to cover you and the purse…I buy a purse, while attractive (to my eye) I don’t care if it lasts a season. Ergo…a rain purse…</p>
<p>Now this must be a regional difference. I’ve never had a purse last just one season. I have “pocketbooks” that are up to 25 years old (and I do still use them. Leather ages well - think of it as the Ralph Lauren look.) And guess what I carry around in it? My New England money.</p>

<p>I have been shopping lately- which is fairly unusual- cause I don’t like even grocery shopping, although the clerks at our neighborhood grocery are the best ever.</p>
<p>Went to Nordies to try on underwear for our trip- & cause my Chantells bras need replacing- but why do they have to change styles? ?
Didn’t buy anything.
However, this weekend we not only went out to breakfast in our neighborhood, but on the walk home, we went by a shoe store that was having a sale.
I sent H to the record store next door to wait. ( he bought Vince Mira’s new CD)</p>
<p>I bought a pair of Born sandals and a pair of Dansko sandals for $70 total, more than 50% off and I needed them. :)</p>
<p>I don’t need any handbags- just bought a TNF backpack to replace the one my daughter is now using, and have accumulated many leather bags, over the years, plus I have about five bags that are Cordura/microfiber/nylon that look great, last and you can wash them, that I usually use.</p>
<p>Still need underwear- maybe I will buy it in San Francisco-
( I bought a sweater at Anthropology that is great- however when I was trying on tops- I grabbed a pair of jeans to look at them with- since I had a sundress on. I loved the jeans- but I looked at the price. OMG!)</p>
<p>Haven’t made the trip to BBB yet for D’s freshman year- although I think kids her age are propping up the economy pretty good on their own.</p>
<p>I’ve really come to love online shopping in the past few years. They make it too easy.

<p>My favorite shopping is for groceries. Weird, I know, but I’ve always enjoyed it. I remember, even in high school, my mother (who has always hated shopping of any kind) would give me $$ and I’d go and do the groceries for the family. I thought it was fun! I guess I’ve never lost that enjoyment. When we’d go on vacation when the kids were young, and we’d rent a place with a kitchen, I couldn’t wait to get out to the local grocery store and explore. Even today, if I’m visiting friends or family in places far from home, and where there are unfamiliar grocery stores, I always try to find time to pop in and see if there’s anything interesting that I can’t get at home. There, I’ve admitted it. You all now know my secret. :)</p>
<p>I never liked grocery shopping until Wegmans came onto the scene. </p>
<p>When I did shop a lot - years ago - my idea of fun shopping did not include Walmart, Costco or BBB. My taste went more towards boutiques and trunk shows. Now my idea of a trunk show would be an afternoon at the zoo.</p>
