I joined the forum not so long ago, but CC quickly became part of my daily routine (especially now, when my DD “patiently” awaits her ED letter). The name of the forum was first mentioned to me by a friend who was agonizing about her kids’ college choices. When she learned that my DD was considering applying ED to a college X, my friend quickly told me to look up this college on a website called “College Confidential” to see that there was a lot of negative posts about the school. Of course, being the absent-minded scientist, I immediately confused it with College P–er (also mentioned by a friend) which dished out a lot of dirt about College X. Not finding any forums there, I googled over and over and finally came to the right place. And I’m glad I found it :)

When my son became a NMSF I googled “National Merit” to find out what the next steps were. Bingo CC came up and I instantly bookmarked it on my favorites.

This question surfaces periodically. One of the most common vectors is Googling questions about the PSAT, National Merit, and individual state cut-off scores. 'twas true for me. While waiting for an answer, I saw someone else’s question that I could answer and then another, and then I thought of another question and then got a reply to one of my responses…and the rest has been history.

I read in a magazine article about competition and college entry that one could “always” dial up something called CollegeConfidential.com where students worry over their 780 scores.

Last year DD was my 4th child but first to be going into music as a major. No one in the family had done this before. Friend gave me the link to help me understand all that was required and to help research programs that would suit her. GC was of no use whatsoever. It was a blessing. Now I’m just hooked :)

I googled “College Admissions” when S2 was applying (2004) and have been hooked ever since! Now S1 has graduated and S2 and D are in college and I still check in every day. It’s a hard habit to break.

A friend told me about it on the evening of December 14th a few years back. D was awaiting her SCEA decision. I went on to CC on the morning of the 15th and found out that the decisions had been made available the night before. I immediately told D while at school.

My daughter showed me something on it in the spring of her senior year in high school. But she told me it was evil. She had stopped reading it altogether because the kids were too out-of-control and competitive, and it just made her feel crummy. I lurked on-and-off for over a year after that, but got sucked in as my son’s college search ramped up.
