I watched the end of the women’s team cross country race live and Diggins was just amazing! What an ending!!!
I thought waxless cross country skis were the best invention ever! Of course, I mostly used them in Germany where did most of the skiing on totally flat ground.
I have waxless skis but my H bought waxable skis last year. I have a ski waxing station set up in my laundry room. Lucky me.
@intparent, my bil races (skate), he stayed at our house and left a receipt from the xc ski store. He paid more for wax than my skis cost. His wife said it was probably for one race.
USA Women’s Cross Country relay team… wow! I loved it
Yes, race wax is wildly expensive. I certainly used less expensive wax when training. Now that I don’t race, I often use waxless classic skis. But skate skis still need waxing, although it is much simpler than classic.
I enjoyed watching the women’s team biathlon. Lots of back and forth with the lead and it’s pretty cool to see someone skiing one minute and shooting a rifle the next!
Am I going to have to stay up until after midnight to see the two Russian skaters do their long program?
According to the published schedule it should be done by midnight.
^ that’s good. I hate having to stay up late to watch and I’ve got live tennis in the morning, so I’d never get to the late night broadcast if I bothered to record it.
Ladies free skating seems to have started earlier tonight
Short track is crazy! That relay where Hungary snuck in at the last moment…
The short program started early enough…but the last group didn’t skate until after tne night news…so about midnight.
We will see!
I know these skaters are reaching for difficulty level and the accompanying points, but I wish they’d just dial it back a notch and skate a clean program. Watching them mess up is no fun.
Reminds me of those who ask “which is better- a B in an AP or and A in an honors?” to which the reply is “An A in AP”. At this level, to compete successfully you have to have it all.
The Japanese skater skated beautifully.
How do they not get dizzy?
Remember the skater a few Olympics ago who won the gold and had been far from the favorite? The favorites all had trouble (Sasha Cohen and Michelle Kwan?) and she skated clean for both routines. I vividly remember her coach jumping up and down on the side of the rink as she finished her long program.

Carolina Kostner is so graceful. What a bummer she fell.
Looks like Russia has secured the gold. B-)
“Triple loop angel” - Love your comments, Tara and Johnny. :x
I claim no expertise in skating, but for my money, Medvedeva was aesthetically stunning. She had a brilliant, dramatic portrayal in the free skate, and I was completely caught up in the story. I wish she had won. Of course Zagitova was excellent, but for me she did not have the edge over Medvedeva.
I also liked Kaetlyn Osmond and of course Carolina Kostner.
