I liked the skating segment. I also was surprised and happy to see the short segment about the sled hockey team because of its focus on the deceased former coach, Jeff Sauer, who was a neighbor of mine.
And there is one more women’s cross country ski race tonight.
30K. I think it starts at 10:15 on the west coast. And just a few hours after that start, Jessie will be carrying the flag. I hope she got a nap today!
I really enjoyed the last number on the skating Gala. To see these skaters from different countries coming together and skating to ‘This is me’ was amazing.
Loving the curling medal ceremony. As I may have mentioned before, I love it when the athletes (from any country) SING their anthem. Ex-H and I are people who always sing when we are at an event where it is played.
Mass start - WTH?!!
Such different fates…
BB! That article on Debi T was informative. So much brilliance and drive, such issues. I hope some one offers her some help. I don’t mean mental health, just an endorsement that brings in some money.
Streaming the women’s 30K classic. Jessie was with the leader group, but fell and lost some time. Norway is running away with it.
So. Mad. At. NBC. We thought they would show it all. Nope. Gala performance was chopped. How on the planet did they decide not to show this?!!!
Go Javi!! B-)
I tried staying up last night to watch curling but faded hard in the fifth end. Enjoyed it thoroughly today, especially the footage from the Duluth Curling Club. Shuster’s joy was infectious and I love his story, despite his resemblance the Ben Roethlisberger. DW pointed out that the Swedish team looked like they were wearing Walmart uniforms, which is true, especially with the bird’s eye views when they were bent over sweeping.
Walmart, official sponsor of the Swedish curling team!
Overall, per usual, NBC’s coverage quality was subpar throughout the games.
Oh, that is too bad that NBC neglected to show Javi’s performance. Was his the only one missed?
Enjoyed them all but loved Tessa and Scott’s tribute to Gord Downie.
They actually did a nice feature on Debi Thomas last night. Lots of twists and turns to her life.
I liked the 1960 hockey team segment.
Was that part of the vignette they did on the 1988 skaters, @thumper1?
@jym626 yes…and they actually did a lot with Debi Thomas on that feature.
I saw a feature on the 1980 hockey team…not 1960. Was there a 1960 hockey team from the U.S.
I thought they did a nice job of connecting the past clips with the present comments by the 4 skaters. Debi Thomas’ demise (for lack of a better word) is sad. Brian Orser got past his second place finish (which they said would have been a first nowadays sine they eliminated the compulsories) and made peace with the olympics with his successful coaching. Brian Boitano accepted Obama’s selection as a member of a group of LBGT athletes and talked about coming out (not that it was really a surprise, but it was difficult for him to do so in a press conference) and Katarina Witt sounds like our German au pair! Even their laughs sound alike. Fun hearing that!
Yes. the US men’s 1960 Olympic hockey team won gold as well. In Squaw Valley California.
Thanks @saillakeerie I had no idea!
