Another marriage MADE in Hollywood…same goes for Travolta and his beard, err wife, Kelly Preston…

I liked her in “Pieces of April.” I never saw Dawson’s Creek or anything else she was in.

^^^^^^^^^^
This

It wasn’t Julianne Hough, but Malin Akerman that played the Rolling Stones reporter that Tom Cruise’s Stacey Jaxx falls in love with in the movie. Though Ms. Akerman been married since 2007 to an Italian musician.

I hope Katie finds someone as wonderful as Keith Urban. I was so happy Nicole got away from Tom Cruise. We see her around town and she is just lovely.

Easy to bash Scientology, but all religions are weird if you look at them from the outside.

Katie’s parents must be very happy.

[Eyes Wide Shut - Trailer #2 (HD) - YouTube](<a href=“Eyes Wide Shut - Trailer #2 (HD) - YouTube”>Eyes Wide Shut - Trailer #2 (HD) - YouTube)

Trailer to one of my favorites with him - Eyes Wide Shut - and Stanley Kubrick’s last film.

Those enjoying 50 Shades might get a kick out of this.

Katie is from our town - the word on the street seems to be VERY supportive of her. News reported she is asking for sole custody. That seems pretty intense.

I’m not very Hollywood savvy , but I have often enjoyed Tom in his movies. And yes, I have though he was not too bad to look at!

Katie deserves a good outcome. Someone else will be on Toms arm before you know it.

curious about her asking for sole custody, wonder what’s behind that? more news at 11.

^ more suri custody money.

I suppose. she’s seeking sole legal and primary residential custody…
seems sole legal custody would possibly be about parenting. Hope they find a way to keep their daughter above the fray.

Agree that the break up of a marriage is sad, and particularly when it involves children and the family splits up.

My observation is that many of the comments are a bit of schadenfreude, and that people find themselves able to engage in that with famous people in a way they might not do if they knew the people personally. It is almost like knocking down those who are elevated in some way (famous, rich, stars). But they are real people too.

PS, admit to thinking of schadenfreude a bit having seen a production of Avenue Q tonight! :D

Well, she wants to live in New York, so sole custody would be necessary.

As for Katie Holmes’ acting, she got very good reviews in Arthur Miller’s ALL MY SONS when it was on Broadway, unlike Julia Roberts who bombed in rain.

She was good in THE WONDER BOYS and GO as well as PIECES OF APRIL.

As for Tom Cruise, he was very good in BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY (and I knew Ron Kovic well, and Tom nailed it), RAIN MAN, A FEW GOOD MEN and JERRY MAGUIRE as well as others mentioned. I have also enjoyed the Mission Impossible movies.

I think it tragic when people are taken up by a cult like Scientology. Clearly, Cruise is captured by it, and is probably quite autocratic.

But listening to Dyan Cannon, so was Cary Grant, and we don’t revile him. He had at least four wives, I believe.

I find Cruise’s performances to be intelligent and nuanced. I see him as a troubled person in some respects, but Katie knew all this when she married him.

I do hope there was nothing untoward in his behavior to Suri to cause Katie Holmes to ask for sole custody. Perhaps she is afraid of losing her daughter the was Nicole Kidman seems to have done.

Being rich and powerful doesn’t insulate one from emotional pain and suffering.

I must say, I don’t know what so many people in Hollywood find in Scientology. And so many others follow Kabbalah.

Hope she can get extricated from Scientology. That religion has been hounding our household for a very long time, even tho we keep telling them NO ONE in this household is at all interested. Sheesh!

How many famous divorces have we heard lately?

Mel Gibson Loses Half of His $850 Million Fortune to Ex-Wife in Divorce
Maria Shriver Files for Divorce From Arnold Schwarzenegger
Tony Danza divorcing after 24 years of marriage
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony separating
Christina Aguilera’s divorce finalized on April 15, 2011
Demi Moore (49) and Ashton Kutcher (33) divorcing after 6 years
Kobe Bryant’s wife (of 10 years) files for divorce

I think most of us feel bad when we hear about a divorce, even if they were rich and famous. The reason some of us are snickering about Katie and Tom is it never seem right from day one. Not that we knew what actually went on behind the close door, but just watching them on screen, they just looked so fake and stressed. We(parents on CC) have kids, how many of us would want our daughter to be Katie. Personally, not for all the money in the world. No envy on my part.

I actually do not have much of sympathy for Katie. She knew what she was getting herself into. She never looked like a woman in love. I could be wrong, but it was a business deal.

HImom, the other day, someone said this to me:“Have you ever noticed how people who want to talk to you about their religion, rarely want talk to you about your religion?” thought is was a good observation, and, no, it was not directed at me.

I agree with all of your points, old fort. Especially about it never seeming genuine.

I disagree. I don’t think I have seen a thread like this about other celebrity break ups and i think there is a reason people feel this way about this one. I personally am usually sad to hear of a celebrity marriage ending in divorce (other than the 5 minute ones), especially when there is a child. But watching the changes in Katie Holmes since the marriage reminded me so much of watching my daughter change when she was in a controlling relationship for 2 years. Like seeing the lights go out. I remember how Kidman was in pictures with Cruise as well, no light in her eyes. Now her eyes just sparkle. I hope Holmes will get that sparkle back in her eyes.

I don’t like Cruise as an actor. To me he is always just Tom Cruise, not the character. I like actors where I am thinking about the character, not thinking it’s the actor saying “look at me!!!”. I also really disliked some of his well known rants such as his ludicrous behavior about anti depressants on the Matt Lauer show and the crazy Scientology video. I thought his true personality showed through in that interview with his contempt and disdain for other’s opinions, and also on that video. Also the way he treated both Rogers and Kidman at the end of the respective marriages was awful. It is kind of karma that he was blindsided by Holmes filing for divorce, just as Kidman was blindsided by him.

Don’t have a lot of knowledge of Holmes’ acting. Watched 2 episodes of the Kennedys last summer and thought she was pretty awful in it, but then the whole thing was pretty awful. I do think she has looked very unhappy and strained for a long time. I suspect she had very good reason for filing from the opposite side of the country and making sure she had Suri with her. Of course I don’t know what really happened in their marriage and maybe I am just “projecting” based on watching my daughter’s awful 2 year relationship. But whenever I would see pictures of Holmes with Cruise in the last few years, it just brought back bad memories. If she was in that situation then I am *very *happy that she got out.

I know an in-law of Holmes’. While I haven’t spoken to him about this, from past experiences I can say her family is most likely mightily relieved.

I hope she does bounce back and gets her life back on track for her and Suri’s sake. As for Scientology, truth be told, it doesn’t seem that much stranger than most other religions to me when looked at objectively. It’s all relative.

It would also give her full control over Suri’s religious upbringing and education. From what I’ve read, she has no great interest in Scientology.
