^that could be why Holmes wants sole custody, but doesn’t there need to be some reason why one parent would actually be awarded sole legal custody? I know each state is different but as a divorced person, in Florida, I believe it is very difficult to obtain sole legal custody, it would have to involve some serious concerns about the other parent’s fitness as a parent. Here the typical outcome in divorce is “shared parental responsibility”.

The question is, was this because Katie finally grew wise and realized Tom was off his rocker??? Or is Tom seeing another man?? … i suspect…
John Travolta, in Pacific Palisades, with a bullwhip…

Mickey Rooneys had 8 wives and he’s still married to his 8th!
I’d rather be married to him than say Larry King, who is also on his 8th wife.

I feel bad for anyone who is going through a break up. They suck.
I can’t say I have seen Katie in anything, but I think Tom is a good actor, or at least he used to be.
But not very centered.

@oldfort: You forgot Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis. Even though they weren’t married she may walk away with millions in palimony. And he may decide to come back to me after all these years unfortunately for him it’s a bit too late…
lol jk

Given those choices, I’d rather be single!

Tom could have me, all he’d have to do is ask.

;)

Just read an article about all of the divorces with Tom start when the women reach 33. Seems a bit odd, but since Katie filed this one, I can assume it is just a coincidence.

Tom Cruise had a hard childhood, from what I remember reading years ago. He does seem to have some real issues. I like him as an actor, thought he was great in Magnolia, Tropic Thunder, Vanilla Sky.

Wasn’t Katie Holmes in Go? She was good.

Wish them both well, and their kids.

I don’t know how reliable this source is, but it’s interesting. Suri may have more problems than we can imagine.

If Katie is trying to make a break with scientology, the sole custody issue makes perfect sense.

My dad was a scientologist for a long time earlier in my parents relationship. The story goes that when they “found out” my mother was catholic, they started calling the house incessantly to try and convert her. They discourage fraternization with people outside the church and will aggressively attempt to convert anyone in your life that you refuse to cut out, and aggressively encourage you to leave them if they will not convert. It is creepy and it got bad enough that my mom issued an ultimatum because she was fearful for her safety. I have read a lot about Nicole Kidman’s marriage to Tom Cruise and so far as I have been able to glean, it sounds like there were a lot of elements of that in their relationship. I’ve always worried about Katie. I hope to see her come out on top.

Is scientology the only religion that attempts to convert individuals and makes a concerted effort for a members spouse to convert?

No, but they keyword there was aggressively. I think any religion that does that is pretty scary. We haven’t had THAT problem with anybody else. They have one of the longest lists of criminal allegations for an organization that I have seen. They’re downright scary.

Are they the only one that does it aggressively?

[Paul Haggis vs. the Church of Scientology : The New Yorker](http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011/02/14/110214fa_fact_wright)

If you’ve got half an hour, this article describes Scientology conversion efforts as well as other aspects of the philosophy. It discusses Scientology’s considerable presence in Hollywood and touches on Cruise and Travolta. Be warned - you might find it disturbing. I did.

So what scientology is bad. It is not an issue for child custody if you believe in the free practice of religion. I am not and will never be a member of any religion but think individuals have the right to expose their children to the religion of the parents choice. If that means multiple religions in the case of divorce so be it.

Mimi Rogers said that Tom rarely wanted to have sex, which is why she divorced him. It would certainly make sense if he is in fact gay, and trying to function as a heterosexual. He certainly seems to be a person with baggage to spare.

I have never liked Ton Cruise. His incredibly ignorant comments about mental health (while “professing” to be knowledgeable on the subject – NOT), the cocky attitude he showed towards Matt Lauer when arguing about mental health and the truly awful things he said about Brooke Shields are unforgiveable. He comes across like a self centered jerk. Occasionally he gets a handler who helps him clean up his image. Katie-- good judgement on your part. Good riddance to Tom. Sorry for the breakup s they are always hard, but good for you!

He can’t be gay. That would put him back at scientology’s level 1.1 (just learned that on a scientology blog).

If people are being harsh, it’s because of Tom Cruise’s displayed arrogance, not because of jealousy or because we want him to be as miserable as ourselves. His ignorant rantings about psychology and post-partum depression are why people don’t like him. Karma’s a *****.

As to his acting, I’ve enjoyed many of his movies, though many of them are formulaic. He always plays the “best” something – best cadet, best bartender, whatever. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Katie Holmes in anything.

Maybe he and John Travolta can be buddies?
