Re Tom Cruise. I’m sure it’s true that he exploits his power and money in ways he shouldn’t. Most celebrities do. My brother had dealings with Robert Redford and found him a real pill.

However, I did read the New Yorker Scientology article and feel only compassion for those caught in a cult. When TC made those comments about postpartum he was loyally spouting party line.

Maybe none of you have been in a cult or known anyone in a cult, but I have. TC was a dyslexic young person who felt Scientology the basis of his success. Silly? Yes. But also pitiable.

If it was a business arrangement, why does the buyer accrue more condemnation than the seller. Surely KH was not a street urchin needing food on her plate.

These are both uber attractive, successful individuals each caught and hurt by a sickening cult.

As for who with and when Tom Cruise has sex, I am much more interested in my own sex life.

And he did apologize to Brooke Shields. She accepted his apology. His position showed incredible ignorance, I agree. Poor him for being so ignorant and making such a fool of himself. I really don’t find this something to despise.

I do enjoy his performances and find them nuanced. It’s not easy to look so natural in so many situations (a la Cary Grant who never won an Oscar.) But if others don’t find him so, no quibble. Tastes in art vary. But that’s hardly a condemnation of his character.

KH was an adorable, spoiled daughter of a rich, controlling father. TC was a poor kid for suddenly found himself rich and powerful.

I don’t find either of them more or less culpable.

And I can’t see gloating about anything about their lives.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have money and power; other times I think it would be a curse. But underneath, they are both still vulnerable folk like us.

As one CC poster used to say: We are all in this leaky boat together.
