On-ground jobs??

I’m wondering what kind of on-ground jobs are available to students? What is the pay like in UVA bookstore and libraries? Thanks in advance!

There are all kinds of jobs on Grounds. There are pretty easy ones that allow you to do some reading while you are working, there are ones with academic departments or in administrative offices, there are ones that are more active and social…there’s a lot of variety. There are also plenty of students working off-Grounds, at shops or restaurants on The Corner, on the Downtown Mall, or at shopping centers like Barracks Road.

I would imagine the pay rates vary as much as the jobs do.

The jobs you mentioned (libraries especially) are typically reserved for work study students, but like Dean J said, there are plenty of jobs in the area.
My roommate worked for the bookstore, as part of her work study. I think it was about $10/hr her 4th yr. My other best friend worked for libraries too (again, work study) and her first year it was only 6 or 7 an hour, but had increased to about 10 by her 4th year. The draw to the on grounds work study is the lack of taxes of course.
I work for a department as a TA, and the pay varies by year as well, it was maybe 8 when I started as a 2nd year and is over 10 by 4th year.
