I got my TOEFL score report today. I dit the PBT. Anyway I got 650/677 composite for the three sections and 3.0 TWE(essay score). Will my essay score be a big deal to the top universities which I want to aply to? I remember having read in a Barron’s TOEFL prep book that universities want a 5 or 6 TWE score. If so should I retake the TOEFL or just take good scores in SAT I(reading and writing). Please post ASAP. Thnx

I’ve heard that you can’t get over a 4 on the TWE unless your essay is REALLY outstanding, so you shouldn’t worry about that, especially considering your high composite score. What really matters is the SAT. BTW, i expected my TOEFL score today but the box is empty
Keep your fingers crossed

The TWE is definitely important. In some universities requirements they say what the minimum or average TOEFL score is and sometimes they say how much they want for the Essay. I would recommend retaking it (though your overall TOEFL score is impressive. I got 667 for the Paper Based TOEFL, too) unless your SAT I score on Writing or AP/IB/Honors English can offset it.

G’luck!
