(This thread isnt really specific to these two schools to be honest)
Alright so I’ve done really well my sophomore year. Maintained a 4.0 UW GPA plus I’m very involved, sports, clubs and the arts (choir nerd :D). I wanted to know if I’m doing just enough Junior year rigor wise, or am I spreading myself to thin??? If it makes any difference my dream school is USC (cali resident) and I plan to apply to UC Berkely, UCLA and Standford (Def my reach school). I’ll include my past schedules just because…
Freshman Year Schedule : (Final grades both semesters)
Spanish 1-2 (B/A)
Biology Accelerated (UW) (A/A)
Concert Choir (Int.) (A/A)
Geometry Acc. (UW) (A/A)
English Acc. (UW) (A/A)
Track & Field (A/A)
Sophomore Year:
Int. Algebra (A/A)
English 3-4 Acc. (A/A)
Spanish 3-4 (A/A)
Honors Chemistry (Weighted) (A/A)
Chamber Singers (Advanced) (A/A)
AP World History (W) (A/A)
Track & Field (A/A)
Junior Year Schedule:
APUSH
AP Physics 1
AP Lang
Honors Pre Calc
Spanish 5-6
Studio/Jazz Singers (Most Advanced)
Track and Field Varsity
- Mind also that I plan to be VP or President of Young Black Scholars (club), contiuning member of my schools chapter of Female Leadership Academy, Officer of CSF/NHS, and start a Green Team Club in efforts to turn my high school "green" and raise funds for the school. Also my school is D1 in California, we're very competitive in track and field so being on varsity is biggg deal. (I have plans to run and sing in college.)
Anyway any feedback on my schedule for next year? Tips on how to manage so many activities? Any advice is welcomed
If, from your clubs, you are indeed African American and Female, I’d say you have a much better chance. I think your junior schedule is fine for the most part. The only concern I would have is AP Physics is generally very hard if you haven’t taken AP Calc first. Ask around for how the teachers and course rigor are and you should be able to better decide on your own.
@Frigidcold OP is taking AP Physics 1, algebra-based, so it shouldn’t be too bad. Generally, people are concurrently enrolled in Precalculus and AP Physics 1.
To @TheLandOfArielle: How do you think your schedule is within the context of your school? You seem right on track for those schools; for people with resumes like yours, I’d say it largely depends on what you do with that resume and how you put it onto paper (for your essays).
With major extracurriculars and a difficult course load, the most important thing is not slacking off. If you know you’re going to have practice on, say, Tuesday and won’t have much time to study for a test, study on Monday. Also, no matter what, try to get lots of sleep. It helps a lot.
Also, it’s Stanford and Berkeley (: (I don’t fault you for not knowing that if you don’t live nearby. I imagine I thought it was Standford for quite a while as well.)
If the OP had gone to each school’s website, he would have known how to spell their names.
@TomSrOfBoston I’ve done extensive research on both school’s websites; I posted this thread in a hurry on my phone and didn’t pay attention to specifics. Your bitterness is unnecessary.
@topaz1116 I think school wise, my schedule is quite competitive. Each year I’ve taken the most advanced courses available in each discipline. Our school is ranked top 11% nationwide, and top 9% of California. Unfortunately my school doesn’t do official class rankings so I can’t really measure that way. However, thank you for the advice; I’m glad you mentioned sleep because that’s something that sort of fell by the way side this year…haha
Yeah, I’ve noticed that I don’t always do the best on tests if I don’t get much sleep, particularly those in first period (precalculus). Mainly because I’ll fall asleep during the test (it’s happened to me before–once, I fell asleep for half of a chem test, realized I had accidentally done the wrong problem with two minutes left, and barely fixed it within the time limit…). You don’t want that happening. It’s not fun. Plus falling asleep in class means you don’t listen to the lectures, which means you actually have to study for stuff.
Sleep is underrated by teenagers.
note:
When you go to sleep, make sure to turn it to airplane mode and leave it face down away from your bed.
Think of all these days when you’re in college and can take 10 am classes :D… especially when you force yourself to turn off all screens and read a non-school book until you fall asleep.
