Which program and how do you like it?
Not online high school, but I take one online class (Edgenuity).
I would not suggest online high school. Honestly, some YouTube videos by high school students are better than what I watch on Edgenuity.
(These complaints are mostly Edgenuity specific)
Problems with Online School:
- There’s no one to ask questions if you need help. (I don’t know your particular situation, though).
- I don’t think the people on there are actually teachers, but rather people who get paid/volunteer to read off a script. It sounds a lot like a high school student going into a presentation unprepared and just reading off the slides.
- You don’t actually learn the information.
- You can’t argue about questions. There are a lot of questions where I feel as though there could’ve been potentially two answers.
- The lectures are really, really boring. (I think this is universal, because I took some online summer school classes on Learning Odyssey, and I was not entertained. What’s weird is that I can watch video lectures from YouTube for hours and not get bored, so I think it’s the human connection that’s missing in online school.)
-It’s difficult to stay motivated, especially if you’re allowed to have notes on the test.
I don’t like online school that much, but that might be because I like LIVE lectures (or YouTube videos) and class discussions, rather than information being flung in my face. What makes you consider online high school?
We have used several online courses for high school: Apex learning, John’s Hopkins CTY, Middlebury languages, and dual credit college courses online can be a wonderful option for HS students.
