OOS transfer chances different than incoming freshman?

I’m a HS senior in Washington state, fell in love with UVa, applied, and was rejected. I’m not surprised considering my “stats” – they were great, but not amazingly great for an OOS student applying to UVa (but I felt my transcript, essays, and recs were very good).
Anyways, I’m still determined to go to UVA, so I plan on transfering after my first year at the University of Washington.
I know it is very hard for OOS incoming freshman to get in UVa, but I was curious if the chances of getting in are better (even a little) for OOS transfer students.

First-years: http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/historical/admission/first_by_residency.htm</a>
Transfers:
http://www.web.virginia.edu/IAAS/data_catalog/institutional/historical/admission/trans_by_residency.htm</a></p>

So it’s 32% first year admission vs 30% transfers for last year’s OOS admissions. However, in years past, its generally been opposite of that. So it just depends year to year. Either way, getting in to UVA OOS is very tough. It does seem like there is a little better hope, but 3% out of 1000 is ~30 students, which is a meager number.

Yes, but the rates are 30%, not 3%–meaning that out of 1000 applying, 300 will be admitted, not 30.

I meant to point out that there is a ~3% difference between the years in transfers admissions (oops! I guess I got ahead of myself in the post). This means that between the years, there was only a difference of 20 students being accepted. So one year it was 320, the next was 300, which is pretty meager, so overall, trasnferring OOS is a bit “easier”.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew there had to be some reason for the 3% comment–and I expected a UVA student like yourself would handle any math problems easily enough.

Haha yeah sorry. Actually i’m at VT for engineering, but a UVA-transfer-hopeful =P The percentage for the OOS transfer admissions rate jumps around each year, but in reality, only by an average of ~3%, which is a mere 30 students. So I was pointing out that it’s tough, any way you look at it, but the differences in percentages that year arn’t as great for the first-year admissions. Which is good news for the OP

By the way, UnLapin: don’t go to college knowing you’re going to transfer. Who knows, you might not do as well as you hope, and then get rejected for a second time by UVA. Go without the intention of transferring, as you might end up falling in love with U of W (which is a great school!) and not want to transfer! If you go in with that intention, you’ll end up shutting out the first-year experience, you probably won’t enjoy the college to the fullest, you’ll be miserable, and might be let down entirely in the end by not one, but two colleges. Not good! So forget about transferring, and make the decision no earlier than winter break.
Just some advice from a current transfer :)
